It’s the end of season finale at Sandown and I would love to go back to the old days of a mixed meeting. I think the public would enjoy it as much as the jockeys did when we mixed with the top Flat jockeys.

They had their turn on Friday though and now it’s the turn of the jumpers.

13:50 Sandown – Knappers Hill

I was at Newton Abbot when KNAPPERS HILL won last week and it was a real confidence booster for him. He jumped really well and he is the best horse in the field. It’s just a simple case of whether he has had a long season and that has taken its toll. The alternative if you think it’s one race too many is the Dr Richard Newland-trained Whizz Kid. He was a little untidy over the last couple of fences at the Aintree Festival but still ran a very good race when fourth to Hacker Des Places in the conditionals’ racer. He is the value against the likely favourite

14:25 Sandown – Mister Fisher

MISTER FISHER chinned in this last year by Frodon and seems to like this track and the good ground will suit. Saint Calvados is the obvious danger but the key to Mister Fisher is a small field and decent ground. He gets both now.

15:00 Sandown – Greaneteen

Paul Nicholls’ runner, GREANETEEN, has a real fondness for Sandown and is best judged on previous form that saw him beat the mighty Altior in this race last year and win the Grade 1 Tingle Creek last December, with Nube Negra 12 lengths behind him off level weights. He was disappointing at Leopardstown over Christmas but seems to reserve his best for Sandown. Sceau Royal will love the ground and is a reliable performer.

15:32 Sandown – Potterman (each-way)

POTTERMAN may have been overlooked a little in the market and was the ‘official’ winner last year after a stewards inquiry saw Enrilo demoted from first and placed third behind Potterman and Kitty’s Light. He’s now off a 2lb lower mark and has had a wind operation and the benefit was evident when he fought off course specialist Empire Steel at Kelso last month.

He meets Kitty’s Light on 7lbs better terms as his stablemate as his rating has gone up and jockey Jack Tudor can no longer claim his 3lb allowance like last year. Kitty’s Light wears cheekpieces for the first time to help him travel better in the early part of the race. It makes life difficult for him if he gets behind early on, as he is not the most fluent all jumpers, even if there are ‘only’ just 15 runners.

Enrillo is tight in the market to win and I’d rather the selection each-way at the prices especially with Paddy paying 5 places if all 15 run.
