13:20 – Primrose Ridge

The outside stall might not be that big a negative for PRIMROSE RIDGE in a race of this nature, particularly given that a lot of her opponents are newcomers, and she’s preferred to fellow Newmarket raider Coraje, who ought to build on her opening Kempton third. Capofan wasn’t that far behind the selection at Redcar and should get a bit closer this time. The betting will obviously guide with the newcomers, Mont Champs the one who makes most appeal on paper.

13:50 – James Watt

It’s difficult to make a strong case for any of these but JAMES WATT is well treated on the pick of his form from last year and could be the answer for a yard that has sent out several sprint-handicap winners already this month. Stablemate Van Gerwen, second 12 months ago, is considered too, as is the relatively lightly raced Tees Spirit, but perhaps the biggest threat will come from Not On Your Nellie, reunited with Faye McManoman.

14:30 – Evocative Spark (nap)

A quick turnaround after what looked quite a hard race is the slight worry with EVOCATIVE SPARK (nap) but there’s little doubt he’s capable of winning off this mark. Ana Gold ran well in a decent Newmarket nursery on her final 2yo start and can pose the chief threat for a stable which is no stranger to success in this race.

15:05 – Autumn Festival

David O’Meara’s AUTUMN FESTIVAL went through most of last week’s 1m Pontefract second like one who is still on a good mark and he’s taken to confirm that impression with this slightly shorter trip likely to be in his favour. Roxzoff (second choice) and Golden Sands have done well in AW handicaps this year and can provide the main opposition.

15:40 – Good Regal

A few hold chances but GOOD REGAL is worth siding with on her return, given that she still has few miles on the clock and signed off last season with a stylish success at Nottingham on her first go at 1m2f. Saulire Star remains winless but shaped encouragingly when fourth at Catterick and is feared most with in-form pair Love Your Work and Termonator on the shortlist too.

16:10 – Carter Cowboy

Plenty are in with a shout. Last year’s winner Poet’s Dawn and likeable mare Casilli, who went in on her seasonal return here in 2021, are seriously considered and David O’Meara’s pair Arranmore and Pisanello figure on the shortlist too. But CARTER COWBOY teed himself up nicely for this when fourth at Doncaster (the form has been franked) and he’s taken to emerge on top.

16:40 – Happy

A real mixed bag, and this looks a good opportunity for the Johnstons’ returning HAPPY to get off the mark. This low-mileage son of Galileo holds much the best form and has been gelded since last seen on the track so has potential for further improvement. Kihavah is a dual hurdles scorer over the winter and appeals as the one to chase him home.
