VAL DE TRAVERS did plenty wrong but was ultimately well on top when scoring on his first start for Mick Appleby at Nottingham on Saturday. He could rate a lot higher if his new trainer can channel his energies better and has obvious claims turned out quickly under a penalty. Mokaman is interesting from a career-low mark back at a venue where he goes well and may prove the biggest danger.

VADAMIAH showed much improved form when making a successful return on handicap debut over course and distance from Sherdil a fortnight ago and there should be plenty more to come from her. She showed plenty of speed and never looked like being head so is fully expected to go in again after a 6 lb rise. Her old rival Sherdil surely has a race in him, while Zwift and Anniversary Belle can also be considered.

14:50 – Myboxmax

MYBOYMAX generally goes well at this track and was unlucky to bump into a rejuvenated sort who had fallen to a good mark and made a winning return to the Flat over course and distance two weeks ago. However, he finished readily on top of the rest, leaving the impression he is also back in top form, and he is well worth backing to go one place better now from a 1 lb higher mark. Molinari was in good form when last seen in the autumn and will be a threat if ready to roll after six months off.

15:25 – Beluga Gold

BELUGA GOLD is proving expensive to follow, getting turned over at odds on for the second time running when beaten by a newcomer over course and distance two weeks ago, but he again finds himself in a weak race, and is the one to beat on the pick of his efforts. He clearly isn’t one for maximum faith but he is given one last chance to open his account. There was no obvious element of luck about Astral Beau’s Leicester debut success so she’s feared most ahead of Richard Fahey’s Fourth Time Lucky.

16:00 – Naughty Nadine

This isn’t as competitive as the numbers suggest and NAUGHTY NADINE is fancied to open her account. She has been running well on the all-weather since joining Mick Appleby, not beaten too far at Kempton last time, and a similar effort should suffice now back on turf. Ha Long Bay and Shabs appeal most as the pick of the remainder.

16:30 – Wizard D’Amour

WIZARD D’AMOUR ran a big race at Doncaster on reappearance and seemed stretched by the one-mile trip on testing ground at Ripon six days ago, so he’s fancied to bounce back and gain his second career success back under more suitable conditions. Jill Rose is a threat following her good third over course and distance on return and Obee Jo, who was fifth in that race, is another player.

17:05 – Motawaazy

Testing conditions were perhaps to blame for MOTAWAAZY‘s low-key display on his final start of last season and, in any case, it’s easy to forgive him for one poor run given that he was otherwise a model of consistency in 2021. The six-year-old is taken to make a winning start to the campaign, likely at the main expense of Redrosezorro, who should come on for his recent reappearance and can be competitive.
