13:25 King Castle
It’s been a while since KING’S CASTLE’s sole success but he couldn’t have gone any closer at Wolverhampton last month, just left a shade too far back to get up. He gets the verdict to double his career tally with this step back up in trip sure to suit. El Picador did well under the circumstances having missed the break at Southwell recently so he’s put forward as the main threat, ahead of My Brother Mike and Kitten’s Dream.

14:00 Diavolo
A typically-open early-season handicap with DIAVOLO the suggestion. He created a very favourable impression on stable/handicap debut at Kempton and a well-run 7f like this looks right up his street. Challet had a great 2021 and could easily resume his progress, while Shalaa Asker has race-fitness on his side from the AW.
14:35 Barley
BARLEY left his debut form well behind when only just denied by the now-useful Island Falcon in what is a traditionally strong maiden at Nottingham in October and looks the one to beat with further improvement on the cards. There are some interesting newcomers in opposition, headed by Goemon, Border Edge and Maljoom.
15:10 Dawn Of Liberation
DAWN OF LIBERATION sets a solid standard having finished second in a couple of strong maidens at York and Newmarket last season so has obvious claims for a yard that has won the last 2 renewals of this novice. Shigar and Blueberry Hill are worth another chance to confirm debut promise so rate the main threats.
15:45 Hathlool
A case can be made for lots of these, but the most persuasive one is for HATHLOOL who comes here on the back of a career-best success at Newcastle and is weighted to go in again despite a 3 lb rise. Lunar Jet is also weighted to have a say, with Year of The Dragon high on the shortlist too.
16:20 Bergerac
BERGERAC scored from a similar mark last autumn and completed the ideal prep’ run when staying on well for third over 5f at Southwell recently. Now back at his ideal distance, he gets the vote ahead of the in-form Tipperary Tiger, with Woven regarded as the pick of those making their seasonal debut.
17:25 Grand Alliance
Impossible to rule out any of these with several open to improvement making their handicap debut. One of those is GRAND ALLIANCE, who was value for more than the ¾-length winning margin at Chelmsford last month so Charlie Fellowes’ colt gets the verdict to make a winning start on the turf. Typewriter, Outbreak and Thunder Max rate the principal dangers in that order.
