13:50 – Ask The Doc
ASK THE DOC is proving expensive to follow after getting turned over at short odds on his last two starts, but this looks a good opportunity for him to belatedly open his account over hurdles. A fair performer on his day, as he showed when filling the runner-up spot in a novice event at Doncaster in December, he should prove much too good for his four rivals here if running up to his best.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
14:20 – Pitempton Power
PITEMPTON POWER produced a career-best effort when finding one too good at this course last time, sticking to his task well to be beaten only four and a quarter lengths behind a very promising chasing newcomer. Pitempton Power won well over this course and distance in December, so the drop back in trip today won’t be an issue. He has done nothing wrong in five starts over fences and another bold bid is expected.
14:55 – Uncle Alastair
UNCLE ALASTAIR is very lightly raced for a 10-year-old, suggesting he hasn’t been the easiest horse to train. He seems to be taking his racing better this season, though, finishing second in both his starts during the winter to show that he still retains plenty of ability. The return to three miles today will be very much in his favour and he looks sure to give another good account now back in a handicap from a workable mark.
15:25 – Malpas
MALPAS justified very short odds with the minimum of fuss over this course and distance 10 days ago, making all to win by five lengths in dominant fashion. He is back in handicap company today and this looks a weak race in which his three rivals all have questions to answer. His connections have placed him very well and Malpas really should take plenty of beating in his follow-up bid.

16:00 – The King Of May
THE KING OF MAY ran right up to his best when filling the runner-up spot at Sedgefield last time, proving no match for the winner but keeping on well to pull clear of the rest. He is 1 lb lower in the weights here and it’s interesting that this will be his first trip to Carlisle since making a winning chasing debut at the track in October 2019. He has developed into a solid operator at this level in the interim and it’s hard to find a reason why he shouldn’t go well again.
16:35 – Penpal
PENPAL produced his best effort for a while when finishing fourth over this course and distance three weeks ago, travelling strongly for a long way before weakening on the run-in to pass the post five lengths behind the winner. That was a big step in the right direction and hopefully he can build on that run today. The handicapper has given him a big chance and there is little doubt he has the ability to win a race of this nature when everything falls right.
17:05 – Geordie B
GEORDIE B is now trained by Clive Boultbee-Brooks and he showed promise on his first start under Rules for this yard when finding one too good at Lingfield last time, typically plenty after coming off the bridle a long way out. That looks a solid piece of form and a repeat of that effort should give Geordie B every chance of getting his head back in front in the finale.
