16:08 – Freewheelin

Freewheelin sprang an 80/1 surprise when scoring over course and distance in October, improving for the marked step up in trip, and he has since shown that was no fluke. He was beaten less than a length when third in a two-mile handicap at Southwell in December and then registered a comfortable success back over that course and distance last month. He is clearly in fine fettle and a 4 lb rise should not be enough to prevent another bold bid.

16:40 – Resumption

Resumption took a while to put it all together but he was impressive when registering a four-and-a-quarter-length success over this course and distance last month, forging clear inside the final furlong. He then defied an 8 lb higher mark in good style back over this course and distance, looking like one to follow as he climbs the ladder. He’s a scopey sort and is in excellent hands with William Haggas, so he should be tough to stop now on a roll.

17:15 – Wynter Wildes

Wynter Wildes was too green to do herself justice on debut at Lingfield, but she ran on strongly at the end of that mile novice stakes, finishing fourth and offering plenty to work on. Given that strength at the finish it was surprising to see Wynter Wildes drop a furlong in trip for her next start at Southwell, but she again shaped well, keeping on close home. She will benefit from a return to a mile and remains with potential, so she looks worth siding with.

17:45 – Shalaa Asker

Shalaa Asker is on a long losing run that stretches back to September 2020 and comprises 15 starts but he has been knocking on the door of late, shaping as if he’s ready to cash in on a reduced mark. Shalaa Asker found only an unexposed rival too strong when runner-up here over course and distance in December and he then wasn’t seen to best effect when fourth here last time after making his effort earlier than ideal. He’s in good form and on a generous mark, so has a good chance of ending the losing run.

18:15 – Burrows Seeside

Burrows Seeside is another who is on a long losing run – 14 starts in his case – but he too has been offering plenty of encouragement of late. He has finished placed on his last three starts and only failed by a short-head at Southwell last time after conceding first run. He has edged up only 1 lb in the weights and goes well here – he has two course-and-distance wins to his name – so a bold bid looks on the cards.

18:45 – Alaskan Jewel

Alaskan Jewel was well backed on her reappearance at Wolverhampton last month and she showed improved form to get off the mark, doing well to win having come from a fair way back in the field. Alaskan Jewel was slowly into stride and held up, but she made good headway over a furlong out and stayed on well to lead near the line, getting up by a neck. A 2 lb rise in the weights may underestimate this filly who is still relatively unexposed on artificial surfaces.

19:15 – Pepper Streak

Pepper Streak was only narrowly denied in a Dundalk handicap off an Irish mark of 71 when last seen in October and she will prove difficult to beat if running close to that level on her first start in Britain. Pepper Streak has left Willie McCreery and joined Adrian Nicholls, who looks to have found an excellent opportunity for her to get off the mark.

19:45 – Morjhana

Morjhana remains a maiden but she has slipped to a handy mark and arrives on the back of an eye-catching effort at Southwell. Morjhana was beaten less than two lengths in fourth at Southwell last time but she appeared unlucky not to finish closer having been short of room inside the final couple of furlongs and then carried left. She will have no problem stepping back up to a mile here and makes most appeal.
