Galah will be a tough nut to crack if somewhere near the form she showed when placed at Cheltenham in December but she made quite heavy weather of justifying favouritism in a run-of-the-mill event at Doncaster two starts ago and ought to have been a bit more competitive in a Listed race last time. She is opposed with ILE DE JERSEY, who won easily in France last summer and now makes her debut for Nicky Henderson.
There should still be more to come from Galop De Chasse, who quickly got back on track with a good effort in defeat at Huntingdon recently, but HERONORD showed more than enough in his first two chases to suggest he can be very dangerous off his current mark and, if able to avoid jumping errors this time, he might be the answer.
Dan Skelton’s LAKOTA WARRIOR enjoyed the run of the race when winning at Wetherby in November and, if judged on his subsequent third there, is perhaps a shade flattered by his BHA mark (117). Nevertheless, he’s been found a good opportunity here and gets the nod. Very few of the others make any significant appeal but hurdling debutant Zucayan was second in three of his four bumpers and looks the main danger.
Isolate, Chambard and Crealion (preferred in that order) all come here in good form and have sound credentials but it might be worth chancing TIGHT CALL, who shaped with considerably more promise than the bare result suggests on his chasing debut in the autumn. Tim Vaughan’s 8yo had reportedly benefited from a break when winning over hurdles here last season, and now returns here after another break.
Trapista still has significant potential but her finishing effort at Cheltenham in December was rather tame and preference is for C&D winner BELLATRIXSA (nap), who may not have been ideally suited by the soft ground when second at Chepstow last month, after a break, and might well come on for the run. Aggy With It should also be suited by today’s switch back to a quicker surface and is next on the list.
Armed with her 7lb sex allowance LASSUE has a good chance on adjusted figures and gets the vote over Mister Splash, who is steadily improving. Harde Fashion is a likely player on his penultimate effort, while a few others have shown enough to suggest they won’t be far away.

The one to beat is PONT AVEN, who has some very good Irish handicap form on his CV and comes here after bolting up in an open point for his new connections last month. Dan Skelton’s runner Not That Fuisse probably wasn’t ideally suited by the soft ground when third over C&D three weeks ago and ought to be capable of better on today’s quicker surface. 2020 winner The Dellercheckout also has possibilities.
