13.20 Leopardstown – Galopin Des Champs
ITV Sunday gets under way here with a Grade 1 novice chase over an extended 2m5f. Hard to oppose GALOPIN DES CHAMPS here who will be a short price for the champion of Ireland Willie Mullins and the champion jockey Paul Townend. The former Martin Pipe winner at Cheltenham has taken well to fences jumping for fun at this track on chase debut. Just has to get round.
13.32 Musselburgh – Impulsive One
ITV are also in Scotland Sunday for this Listed juvenile handicap hurdle over nearly 2m. Won’t be a huge price but the obvious one here is IMPULSIVE ONE for Nicky Henderson and James Bowen. The three-time winner had a go on the Flat recently and prior to that had been expensive to follow at both Doncaster and Kempton. However, this is easier and he should be good enough.
13.50 Leopardstown – Chacun Pour Soi
Another Grade 1 here over 2m1f. On home turf CHACUN POUR SOI should be far too good again for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend. Of course my hope flopped behind re-opposing Greaneteen in the Tingle Creek at Sandown but we all know that’s not a reflection of his true ability. The latter was put in his place by Shishkin at Kempton and a peak form Chacun will destroy this field. He just seems much better on home soil than when travelling.

14.05 Musselburgh – Since Day One
Here’s a novice hurdle over nearly 2m. I’ll be with the Donald McCain runner here SINCE DAY ONE who is ridden by Brian Hughes. The recent three-time Newcastle scorer seems to be improving with every race and can see off Restandbethankful who is the obvious danger.
14.25 Leopardstown – Birchdale
A handicap chase over an extended 2m5f. This is wide open. BIRCHDALE is too well handicapped to ignore for Enda Bolger and with Mark McDonagh taking off 7lb. Rated 129 for this, Birchdale was once up to 146 with Nicky Henderson and showed a revival last time when sixth behind School Boy Hours in a chase at this track in December. This slightly shorter trip is ideal and he must be a big eachway player. Has been sixth and eighth in big handicap hurdles at Cheltenham.
15.00 Leopardstown – Honeysuckle
Now it’s the Grade 1 Irish Champion Hurdle over 2m. This won’t take long. HONEYSUCKLE is the outstanding Irish champion over hurdles and the champion hurdler should have little problem destroying this field for Henry de Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore. I’ll take Saint Roi to chase him home for those interested in a possible forecast bet.

15.15 Musselburgh – Nero Rock
Now a handicap chase over 2m. NERO ROCK has been knocking at the door for Jennie Candlish and maybe this is a chance to be rewarded for those efforts under Sean Quinlan. A mark of 126 seems fair and his run at Doncaster last time was decent. He’s only won two races Under Rules and both of those were in Ireland. Let’s hope he can do well in Scotland also.
15.35 Leopardstown – Sir Gerhard
Grade 1 again here in a novice hurdle over 2m. SIR GERHARD is the big Irish challenger to Constitution Hill in the Supreme and he should land his second race of this season here for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend. The Cheltenham bumper winner has always oozed class and jumped well on hurdles debut at this track going clear in the closing stages.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
