Horse Racing tips: Fran Berry’s 8 Friday night fancies at Dundalk

Sporting Life's top columnist Fran Berry likes the value of Havana Pearl in the 17:00.

16:00 Scalor

A really competitive contest to start where Rita Levy and Turf Range won last time out. I prefer the more unexposed SCALOR for Liz Doyle though. He has been an eye-catcher in his last couple of runs and can build on his handicap debut last time when fifth to Bradesco over this 1m 4f trip.

HELLO FROM PADDY POWER NEWS!

16:30 Honey Girl

A two-year-old’s Fillies Maiden over 7 furlongs where the market could speak in favour of both Kadinnka and Boragh Empress from the Joseph O’Brien and Johnny Murtagh stables. They’re unknown quantities, but the standout filly is Henry De Bromhead’s bottom weight HONEY GIRL. She trialled well around Dundalk before and put up a good show in tough conditions at Killarney last time. She can go close from a good draw in stall three.

17:00 Havana Pearl

This is division two of the Fillies Maiden and the top weight HAVANA PEARL could provide the answer for trainer Michael Halford, whose yard has been in great form recently. He’s a good draw in stall five and there could be more to come. Sangria will be close to the head of the market and is a previous winner here, but got disqualified on a technicality.

17:30 New Star (NAP)

We put Jonny Murtagh’s NEW STAR up a couple of weeks ago and he was very unlucky in running. Ben Coen takes over in the saddle and he can go close in this 45-75 handicap. He’s my NAP of the night too.

18:00 High Voltage

Another 7-furlong Maiden where the Ger Lyons-trained A Taad Moody has been off the track for over a year, but was placed at Listed level as a two-year-old. She’s likely to be an odds-on favourite, so for a bit of value I’ll go with JJ Murphy’s HIGH VOLTAGE – who could improve a lot for the drop back in trip.

18:30 Kendred Soul

The 45-65 7-furlong handicap for three-years-olds and sees KENDRED SOUL return to the scene of her June success off a much higher mark. She was seventh on her last start to stablemate Ampeson – just beaten 4 lengths – and her trainer Pat Murphy has a really good strike rate at Dundalk. She has a good draw and watch for any market support.

19:00 Sister Rosetta

This 6-furlong sprint looks the hardest race on the card with eight of the 13 runners doing battle last time out. Ger Lyons’ SISTER ROSETTA is dropping down the rating and will love having a decent pace to aim at. Colin Keane takes over in the saddle and from stall three can go very close in a very tough heat.

19:30 Cityman

We conclude with another 6 furlongs sprint where CITYMAN looks to be the best of Andrew Slattery’s three runners. He ran for the first time in four months when a staying on third over 5 furlongs last time and the extra furlong will help now. He’s well drawn in stall seven and can end the night on a winning note for us.
