13:50 Cheltenham – Fusil Raffles

With the threat of a low sun during the winter months, the featured Racing Post Gold Cup is the first race on ITV on Saturday and those that were involved in the finish of the Paddy Power Gold Cup last month are prominent again. The winner that day Midnight Shadow starts here as well as Lalor, Zanza (who will prefer the ‘New Course’) and Coole Cody – who fell when holding every chance at the second-last fence in the Paddy Power Gold Cup.

Midnight Shadow is a player despite his revised mark as he was second in this race, but Charlie Hall Chase winner FUSIL RAFFLES is being overlooked. He was second in the Marsh Chase at the Festival over this course and represents good value.

14:05 Doncaster – Takeit Easy

Pam Sly’s runner was beaten by Onemorefortheroad at Huntingdon and he went on to win a decent Listed Hurdle at Newbury at their Winter Festival so that is good form. TAKEIT EASY has already beaten Tommy’s Oscar at Wetherby and can confirm that form again.

14:25 Cheltenham – Blazing Khal

Irish trainer Charles Byrnes’ is a shrewd operator and he rates BLAZING KHAL, who won a Grade 2 contest over 2m 5f at this venue last month. The step up in trip to 3m shouldn’t be a problem and he will be a mover in the market for the Albert Bartlett at next year’s Festival with victory here.

14:40 Doncaster – Impulsive One

Nicky Henderson’s runner was giving weight to Knight Salute at Kempton when he finished second. He’s since had a wind operation, is in very good form and Doncaster’s flatter track will suit him. It’s a competitive contest and while the likely favourite Porticello is respected on his Wetherby win, IMPULSIVE ONE looks a bit of value against him.

15:00 Cheltenham – Song For Someone

Tom Symonds has been relatively quiet with his runners because of the unseasonably dry ground. SONG FOR SOMEONE had a good run under his belt when second to Buzz at Ascot last time and won this race last year.

Sceau Royal is a model of consistency and has to be respected, while Ballyadam is a fascinating runner back over hurdles. He didn’t seem a natural over fences.

15:15 Doncaster – Two For Gold

Kim Bailey’s charge has a good record when fresh and the track and trip will suit TWO FOR GOLD. He’s topweight and, while he might be shorter in the market than ideal in this seven-runner contest, there’s little each-way value elsewhere with just the two places on offer. The first-time blinkers on Mr Muldoon could see him run a big race.

15:35 Cheltenham – Martello Sky

Lucy Wadham’s team are in red-hot form and MARTELLO SKY ran a very good race against some smart rivals at Aintree. We can expect improvement for that run, so she warrants the selection. Indefatigable is respected at a track where she had one of her greatest days when winning at the Cheltenham Festival a couple of years ago.
