12:20 – Oceanline
Oceanline was disappointing when only fifth in listed company at Wetherby in October but he had shown plenty of promise when runner-up to a subsequent winner on his hurdling debut at Stratford. Oceanline was a useful performer on the Flat – he won a competitive contest at Sandown in August – and his effort at Stratford shows that he has taken well to hurdling, so he should prove a cut above this opposition.

12:50 – Flaminger
Flaminger was largely out of form towards the end of last season and he seemed to down tools when pulled up on his final start of the campaign, but he has been given a big chance by the handicapper and is now 8 lb lower than when successful on his reappearance here in 2020. That was his second win here, highlighting his effectiveness around this unique figure-of-eight course, and it also showed that he can go well fresh. He has enough in his favour to be worth chancing from this reduced mark.
13:20 – Henschke
Henschke still looked a bit raw when finishing runner-up on his reappearance at Plumpton last month but that was a promising performance and he remains capable of better. Henschke, making only his second start in a handicap, put in some novicey jumps but he still loomed up three out and briefly looked in control at the final flight, only to be headed near the finish. He went like the best horse at the weights at Plumpton and is only 1 lb higher here, while a subsequent wind operation may have unlocked further improvement.
13:50 – Hamilton Dici
Hamilton Dici was successful on his chasing debut at Warwick last month and this lightly-raced four-year-old has plenty still to offer over fences. Hamilton Dici wasn’t left with much to beat after a couple of his main rivals disappointed but he still took well to his new discipline, jumping soundly in the main. He has a 6 lb higher mark to deal with in a tougher race here, but his weight-for-age allowance is a big advantage and he has an appealing profile.
14:20 – Moonamacaroona
Moonamacaroona was a dual winner in bumpers and she went close on her first completed start over hurdles at Market Rasen last month, going down by just three-quarters of a length. Moonamacaroona looked set to win that maiden hurdle when leading at the second-last, but she idled on the run-in and was headed near the finish. She may have her quirks but she should have learned plenty from that experience and appeals as the type to carry on improving for a while yet.
14:50 – Bleue Away
Bleue Away, a dual point winner, shaped with plenty of promise on her chasing debut at Worcester in September and remains with scope to do better in this sphere. Bleue Away had to settle for second at Worcester but she went like the best horse at the weights under an aggressive ride, possibly doing a bit too much too soon. She subsequently posted a creditable third back over hurdles here last month, but it is over fences that she is likely to excel, so returning to chasing could bring about improvement.

15:20 – Lockdown Leader
An opening BHA mark of 103 could underestimate the ability Lockdown Leader possesses and he can make a successful handicap debut. Lockdown Leader, a clear second behind a useful rival at Southwell on his final start last season, had little chance in a strong maiden hurdle at Aintree on his return but he made some late headway and ought to come on for the run. This is a much weaker contest featuring plenty of rivals with questions marks against them, and the unexposed Lockdown Leader has plenty going for him on his handicap debut.
