12:30 Desert Pioneer
Although beaten some way in three starts to date, DESERT PIONEER still has a bit of potential now handicapping at a lowly level, having started among the favourites on his debut and gone off a single-figure price in novice company behind a useful winner over course and distance last time. Sir Joseph Swan is another to consider.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
13:03 Red Square
There was plenty to like about Famous Star’s recent Wolverhampton debut, when she came right away with the favourite, but RED SQUARE was plain unfortunate to bump into some useful winners early in the season and she’d be unlucky if there was another in the Quenelle D’Or or Sea La Rosa league in here. The expensive Kingsofthemidlands, who’s been beaten as favourite in three turf starts, is the other with obvious claims.
13:33 Come On Girl
A few of these are happiest on the sharp end and this might be set up for COME ON GIRL, who’s currently 2-3 over course and distance and offered more last time on her second run back from a summer break. Camachess is another with claims, along with the hat-trick chasing Queen Of Burgundy, although another furlong would have been preferable for her round here from a wide stall.
14:03 Sovereign Slipper
It’s easy to pick holes in the longstanding, regressive maidens Bobby On The Beat and Million Reasons, and this looks the ideal chance for SOVEREIGN SLIPPER to supplement his Kempton win. Clashaniska is also capable if getting one of his better breaks, but therein lies the gamble.
14:33 Howzak
Hope Springs did much better on her course and distance handicap debut a month ago, when having Arzaak and stablemate Lady Susie behind. She’s lightly raced and may well confirm placings, but HOWZAK (NAP) is the one to beat under a penalty, having won easily from the front at Chelmsford last Thursday.
15:05 Shamlaan
Arguably unlucky not to be 3-4 in nurseries, SHAMLAAN looks up to defying a 3lbs rise for his September course and distance win now starting out for a new yard. Aye Catcher looks a fair each-way alternative.
15:35 Rani Of Jhansi
The Crisfords’ newcomer Melancholy has plenty going for her on paper and a strong market move would point the way. However, RANI OF JHANSI has shown a fair level of form – including round Chester’s tight bends – and she gets a narrow vote. Moqadama is next on the list.
16:05 Estrela Star
Not many with strong credentials, but ESTRELA STAR has gone well for Sophie Smith this summer and has realistic claims back on the all-weather. Master Grey usually steers clear of artificial surfaces, but has every chance on his turf form and looks the main danger.
