A case can be constructed for several of these, but the verdict goes to FIREBOMB.He has several pieces of solid form to his name and now returns from a gelding operation. The main dangers may be Macon Belle and Le Beau Garcon, in that order, although a market move for the newcomer Queen Spirit would be significant.

13:40 Mackenzie Rose

Carlisle runner-up MACKENZIE ROSE has shown steady progress and is taken to go one better. Smooth Talking (second choice) and On The River are other big players on form, while Oppressive and Arnside are interesting types among the handicap newcomers.

14:15 Safran

The top two in the weights make the most appeal here. SAFRAN looks to be coming to the boil and can gain a first British success after a couple of encouraging third places. Strongbowe looks the main danger ahead of Late Arrival, Asmund and Athollblair Boy.

14:45 Idoapologise

In a tight handicap, IDOAPOLOGISE makes some appeal after a summer break, having shaped well when a close third at Ayr two outings ago. Most of the others have possibilities, with Copper And Five, Old News and Sucellus considered the chief threats in that order.

15:20 Runninwild

Captain Vallo is tempting after an excellent run over course and distance when he got going just too late to land a blow, but narrow preference is for RUNNINWILD who has improved for positive tactics of late. He’s only 1lb higher than when second over 5 furlongs at Thirsk and returning to 6 furlongs won’t harm him at all. Highjacked keeps progressing and is another to consider.

15:50 As If By Chance

The newcomers would not need to be anything special to make an impact, so the market needs watching. But, this could be the day AS IF BY CHANCE finally gets off the mark. He finished just behind Miss Behaving and Masquerading at Doncaster, but fared better at Beverley next time and has a solid record at Redcar. Masquerading may be the main threat, while Crofters Green showed some promise on her debut and could leave that form behind with the experience under her belt.

16:20 Desert Quest

Today’s long straight should be ideal for DESERT QUEST (NAP), who seems a relentless galloper, and he’s taken to complete a hat-trick. Clear second choice is Major Snugfit, but Hazalou and Vivid Luminosity are lightly raced and cannot be ruled out. Meanwhile, the veteran Jan De Heem could be revived by a return to Redcar.

16:55 Overthink

Blinkers could suit OVERTHINK, who ran well last time despite never really travelling, and he’s taken to add to his recent Catterick win. Hidden Pearl’s supporters have needed deep pockets, but she went agonisingly close at Yarmouth two starts ago and looks the chief threat. Although, the well-bred Victoria Line is also interesting for a new stable. Topweight Spantik is solid and should be thereabouts.
