Sophie’s Star has already won twice and she has been found a nice opportunity to add to her tally. She sets a high bar based on the form she showed when a four-length winner at Beverley in July and she has run to a similar level in defeat the last twice, including in listed company at Naas. She has plenty of speed and should be difficult to peg back.
Pagan is progressing well with racing and put up a career-best effort when successful at Brighton last month, winning in the style of a sprinter a long way ahead of his mark. Pagan scored with plenty in hand at Brighton and, in excellent hands with William Haggas, looks the type to carry on improving for a while yet. He can defy an 8 lb rise in the weights.
Great Ambassador has made giant strides since joining Ed Walker and he can make a successful transition from handicap company. He was a big eye-catcher when third in the Stewards’ Cup, faring best of those who raced in the smaller group on the far side, and he backed up that positive impression in no uncertain terms at Newmarket last month, readily quickening clear to win by a length and a half. He is still lightly raced for a sprinter and could have an even bigger effort in his locker.
Mistrix was only narrowly denied when runner-up at Doncaster and she built on that positive impression when filling the same position at Salisbury last month. She remains open to further improvement after only two starts and stands out as the one to beat on these terms.
Master Milliner ended last season on a high, winning at Kempton, and he picked up where he left off by scoring at Goodwood and Salisbury. He has made little impact in his last three starts but he has not been beaten far the last twice and the handicapper has given him a chance. The return to two miles should also help and he ought to give a good account.
Aramaic seemingly failed to handle the heavy ground when well beaten on his only start as a two-year-old, but he produced a much more encouraging effort on the all-weather at Kempton on his return last month, beaten only a neck by a subsequent winner. Aramaic was then presented with a good opportunity at Musselburgh but he still impressed with how easily he completed the task, barely needing to come off the bridle to readily draw clear. He has been handed a fair opening mark, should be suited by this slight step up in trip and is open to plenty of improvement, so he gets the vote in what could be a hot race.
Emaraty Hero proved better than ever when scoring on his return at Musselburgh last month, justifying good support in the process. He still looks well treated after going up only 6 lb for that comfortable success and he remains open to further improvement, keeping in mind his lightly raced profile. He can provide the in-form Grant Tuer with another winner.
