Midnights Legacy was going through the grades nicely and put up a really smart performance in June at Epsom under good to soft conditions, fairly sprinting away from a good yardstick in Soto Sizzler at the closing stages to win comfortably. It’s possible the extremely soft conditions at Haydock didn’t suit him after that so you could argue he’s not quite had the race run to suit him since that Epsom win. This beautiful galloping track can bring out the best in him again.

The old boy Stradivarius is back for more and he should not be underestimated on a track that clearly suits him. He didn’t take his chance at Goodwood when going for the five timer in the Goodwood Cup and connections’ patience can be rewarded with success here. His likely danger, Trueshan, needs the heavens to open for him to hold any chance. Get ready for the Frankie Dettori dismount!
15:00 Fearby
Fearby didn’t seem to run with his normal fluency last time at the Glorious Goodwood meeting and he’s better than that. Possibly the rain-softened ground didn’t suit him, but he still has a bundle of untapped potential, especially now as he’s stepped up a furlong in distance. The young rookie trainer Edward Bethell is making a real name for himself and this can prove his biggest win to date.
15:35 Golden Pal, Chipotle (each-way)
Golden Pal has not stopped winning since an unlucky second at Royal Ascot last season. Frankie Dettori gets the call, which is always a positive, and surely this American speedball will have too many gears for the home talent in this division? I might have a sneaky couple of quid on Chipotle each way at the price Paddy is offering as he gets a whopping weight-for-age allowance.
16:10 Broadspear
Broadspear put up a good performance on debut when clearly quite ‘green’ and the winner that day has gone on to finish fourth in a decent Listed contest since.
