We’ve got a bank holiday Monday double-header and both Cork and Naas have stood up well to the heavy rain this week. The ground is currently good at both venues, and is likely to remain that way. Cork was too tough for me. Naas looks tricky too, but hopefully we can find a winner or two.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

14:25 Recurrent Dream

The day’s feature is a valuable sales race and as you would expect for such a valuable pot, there are plenty of contenders. A number of UK runners add further intrigue to the race, while Ger Lyons holds a strong hand in the race. Sacred Bridge will start favourite and she has been impressive in winning both starts, her Listed win last time out sets the standard here.

Stablemate RECURRENT DREAM could represent a bit of value. He was heavily backed when making a winning debut over course and distance recently and the form is untested. They looked a nice bunch in the parade ring. Recurrent Dream broke slowly and he looked a bit clueless when pulled out at the two-furlong pole.

A couple of backhanders along with meeting rising ground really helped get his act together and he ran out a most impressive winner. I’d expect him to come forward plenty for that experience. If not too daunted by this big field scenario, he looks a horse with plenty of ability.

15:00 Naas – Young Angel

YOUNG ANGEL should be competitive in the sprint handicap and this well-bred filly won a maiden over an extended 6 furlongs in Listowel on penultimate start. It was a bit surprising to see her dropped to the minimum trip for her next start on Irish Oaks weekend and she produced a curious performance that day.

My concern beforehand was that she would struggle with the early tempo. In fact, she travelled like a dream. She was a bit intimidated by another horse a couple of furlongs down, and seemed to lose concentration. In the end I don’t believe her jockey ever picked up his stick and that experience should not be lost on her. That Listowel win suggests the return to 6 furlongs is a positive and this lightly raced sort looks well treated here.

Naas-Rcecourse-2021

16:40 Sanosuke

SANOSUKE drops in trip for the 10-furlong handicap and I don’t believe that will be a problem. He looks to be improving and he was a bit unlucky on handicap debut in KIllarney a couple of weeks ago. He got trapped on the inside in a race run at a muddling pace. While not suffering severe interference, he never really got a chance to show what he could do.

Given he only lost by a length, I don’t believe it’s fanciful to rate him an unlucky loser and given that they all finished in a heap that day, it’s reasonable to question the value of the form. I reckon that was a function of the race’s tactical nature and the fourth placed horse is a solid yardstick. That race was a three-year-old only handicap, while Monday’s race sees Sanosuke take on his elders. He can make the three-year-old allowance pay.

17:15 Tauran Shaman

A quality 10-furlong handicap closes the card and TAURAN SHAMAN is the class angle. He’s a frustrating horse, but should get a lovely set up here. His tendency to miss the break proved disastrous in Galway earlier in the week and Shane Foley knew the jig was up a long way out. He allowed the horse to coast home.

His previous three runs came over this trip in Leopardstown and all three efforts read like strong form. Significantly, Monday’s race looks to be loaded with early pace and that’s what this horse needs. He should be able to make his superiority tell as the race falls apart.

Brendan Duke’s tips summary:

14:25 Recurrent Dream
15:00 Young Angel
16:40 Sanosuke
17:15 Tauran Shaman
