Superstar filly Love is the favourite with Paddy Power to win this afternoon’s eagerly-anticipated King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes – but does she have the backing of our pundits?

Aidan O’Brien’s dual Classic winner returned from a 10-month break to win the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot but five top-class rivals await this afternoon including Epsom Derby hero Adayar.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Lone Eagle, Wonderful Tonight, Mishriff and Broome complete the quality field to set up a battle of the generations over 1m 4f.

It promises to be an absolute cracker – but who are Paddy’s pals backing to claim the big prize?

Matt Chapman: “If like me you think LOVE is exceptional then you have to stick with her with the ground unlikely to ease in time for Adayar. There is a chance of rain Saturday, and if it turned soft, I would change my mind. Love looked a monster in the 1000 Guineas, Oaks and Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, and of course being a filly she doesn’t have to give quite as much weight to Adayar as an older male horse.”

Jason Weaver:ADAYAR should be able to get a perfect lead into the contest and is surely not going to give Love any leeway up front? He can latch onto her tail and let’s hope he shows that same change of gear that saw him slip through on the rail at Epsom last time to become a Derby winner.”

Mick Fitzgerald:LOVE sets a very high standard and won the Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot last month on her first run of this season too. She is proven at the highest level, but if we get a lot of rain I am not sure she is as potent on slow ground as she is on a quick surface. Love should be too good for them but watch the forecast and the going!”

Frank Hickey: “The ground is ideal for LOVE and she is versatile with regards to tactics, so she will be tough to beat. Adayar was impressive in the Derby and Hurricane Lane hasn’t let that form down subsequently but he has never raced on ground as quick as he will face now and I would just swerve him because of that.”

Ruby Walsh: “I’m a huge fan of LOVE and I’m going to side with her. I thought she might go to Goodwood next week but they’ve stepped her up to 1m 4f here instead. We know she stays as she won the Epsom Oaks and she’ll be too good for the three-year-olds.”
