18:00 – Irv

IRV attracted support on his return to action over this course and distance last month and he shaped well, likely to have gone close to winning if getting the splits, short of room over a furlong out and again hampered inside the final furlong. That form is solid and Irv is best not judged on his latest run at Thirsk where he wasn’t seen to best effect, asked to come from much further back than the quartet that beat him. Irv is no 8 lb below his last winning mark and holds strong claims.

18:35 – Skyrunner

This looks a match between SKYRUNNER and Follow Your Heart, with preference for the former, who left his debut form well behind when making a winning reappearance at Doncaster last month. That was over seven furlongs, but the drop back in trip isn’t much of a concern given he showed plenty of speed and this track is much stiffer. He’s drawn well in stall 1 and a big run is expected.

19:10 – Lusail

This is a good-looking conditions race for two-year-olds and the Richard Hannon-trained LUSAIL is taken to come out on top. He started a big price in a race where there were two significant withdrawals at the start, but he produced quite a taking effort for a debutant, impressing with his mid-race move into contention. Lusail showed plenty of greenness in the early part of the race and rates the type to take a big step forward for that experience. He is fancied to prove too strong for Khunan and Ever Given, while Open Mind is a newcomer to monitor in the market.

Pontefract

19:45 – Cormier

The most interesting of these is CORMIER, who was a two-time winner on the Flat last year, and made a very encouraging return from five months off back over hurdles when finishing second in the Swinton Handicap Hurdle at Haydock three weeks ago. He left the impression he should have finished a clear second, too, doing well under the circumstances, going well when shuffled back soon after the third-last and snatched up again soon after next. His mark back on the flat looks a lenient one and he should go close.

20:20 – Myristica

MYRISTICA wasn’t seen to best effect on her reappearance, but she was well backed and showed improved form to open her account over this trip at Nottingham last week, her stamina very much coming to the fore in the closing stages. Her and the runner-up pulled clear of the remainder, and the switch to this stiffer track is a plus with that in mind, so there is plenty to like about her chances turned out under a penalty. Fellow three-year-old Maxine also carries a penalty for a success last time and looks an obvious danger.

20:50 – Ventura Express

VENTURA EXPRESS bolted up over course and distance on his first start for Paul Midgley last month and was beaten by Soul Seeker nine days later. That rival has gone on to win again since, so Ventura Express is weighted to reverse the form now, and is taken to do so on just his third start for a yard that do well with such types.
