MASCAT took a massive step forward from his reappearance effort when chasing home a very tidy type in the Zabeel Champion at Ripon. That form has been given a boost since, with the winner coming out and producing a very tidy performance to win by a clear margin.
Mascat was arguably a little unlucky as they run into a little dip around about a furlong-and-a -half out at Ripon and was caught in a pocket. He can make amends on what is the start of a fantastic weekend’s action at headquarters.

In each and every season so far, the consistent AGINCOURT has always managed to up her game from a ratings perspective and there is no reason to expect that to stop. She confirmed herself as a solid triple-digit performer in 2020 and can continue to climb up the ladder.
She wears a tongue tie, has had a wind operation and has that stand-out piece of form when second to Nazeef in Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Ascot last season. A return to anywhere near that form will be good enough to win this as she looks the class act. in the race.
14:25 Newmarket – Emaraaty Ana
It’s interesting that EMARAATY ANA has finally dropped back down to the minimum 5f trip, which looks the ideal solution for this very talented, but slightly quirky, performer. He looked all over the winner last time but came up short in the final half furlong against some real classy performers.
He doesn’t have to make the running and with Glamorous Anna in the line-up, he may well get a perfect lead early on. A few of these like to be played very late so he may well be able to pinch it from the front over this shorter trip.
14:40 Thirsk – Acquitted
ACQUITTED looked for all the world as if he was going to collect on his return to action in the Spring Mile at Doncaster. He hit the front and set sail for home only for race fitness to tell in the final 50 yards. The winner Artistic Rifles had a fitness edge and has given the form a decent boost since when bolting up at Ripon in impressive fashion. Acquitted is well drawn in what is typically a rough race and his hold-up style will be a benefit in a contest that looks loaded with pace.
15:00 Newmarket – Pyledriver
This is a fantastic renewal of this contest and it will take a very good performance to collect the prize. There are just five runners, but with only three trainers represented with the William Haggas and Mark Johnston teams double handed.
PYLEDRIVER was a super performer for connections last year and was always underestimated. He made his challenged far too early in the St Leger considering he was a doubtful stayer. The return to a mile-and-a-half should bring out the best in this classy performer for the new training combination of William Muir and Chris Grassick, who broke their duck just the other day at Lingfield.
15:40 Newmarket – Battleground
BATTLEGROUND was always going to be a better three-year-old given his size and scope going forward. I’m fascinated to see what he looks like in the paddock before his first assignment, but I’m sure he’s not going to disappoint. He has a little to find on official ratings, but we all know how much they can change with a winter on their back.
Frankie Dettori takes the ride and he seems to have been handed a decent draw in stall number 15 towards the stand side. The stalls are positioned in the middle, so there is a bit of pace drawn around him from Naval Crown and Mutasaabeq.
