Ruby Walsh and Frank Hickey have selected their best bets ahead of a packed weekend of racing action.
Speaking on the latest episode of Paddy Power’s twice-weekly From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, Ruby couldn’t narrow his selections down to just one tip while Frank insists his choice was not based on the horse’s name.
Ruby Walsh
2.47pm, Galway (Saturday) – Tiger Voice
My best bet could well be in the SANSERV Rated Novice Chase at Galway. I thought TIGER VOICE was coming up to beat Jack Hackett at Punchestown when he fell. He is a Galway winner in the past.
3.00pm, Galway (Sunday) – Beacon Edge
If Tiger Voice misses, I think BEACON EDGE at Galway on Sunday is my next best bet. He has been a non-runner twice now, but he’s the one for me. His form with Jason The Militant looks rock solid.
Frank Hickey
1.45pm, Doncaster (Saturday) – Just Frank
This is a 6f Listed race at Doncaster and the horse is called JUST FRANK. I’m not picking it for sentimental reasons, as this horse ran away with the valuable Sales race at Newmarket at the start of the month, winning by four-and-a-half lengths. Decent horses followed him home that day so I think the form is pretty solid.
He will need to improve again a little bit and he is up against Lipizzaner who has only won once from six starts but he did run well when second in a Group 3 at the Curragh the last day and you’ve got Zamaani who was second in the Redcar Trophy last time out. Just Frank needs to improve to reach the level of those two but I did think he relished the cut in the ground at Newmarket and he had the race won over a furlong out. He could be improving enormously.
