Frank Hickey and Paddy Power are both tipping up the same horse in the feature race at Dundalk tonight.
The pair are miraculously in agreement over their selections for the Pat Smullen Mercury Stakes, due to get underway at 7.45pm.
Speaking on the latest episode of the twice-weekly From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, both Frank and Paddy are backing an all-weather specialist to come up trumps in the five-furlong sprint.
7.45pm – Rocket Action
FRANK: This is a very interesting race. Last year it was won by the two-year-old Dr Simpson for Tom Dascombe. Muker is obviously interesting – was third in the Windsor Castle, won a novice race at York and won a maiden at Newcastle either side of that so is getting an awful lot of weight.
The one I thought was probably a bit of value was ROCKET ACTION for Robert Cowell. He’s much better on the all-weather than he is on the turf. He’s running okay on the turf, and was beaten by a short neck at Deauville in a Listed race and wasn’t disgraced either in the Coral Charge at Sandown. He was beaten by just under six lengths that day.
He had run in the King’s Stand Stakes earlier in the year but he is four from six on the all-weather, with two second places as well, and I just think the race will be run to suit him. If one of the two-year-old’s doesn’t win, I think he is probably most likely to do it with Shane Foley on board.

PADDY: I have the same one as Frank written down – ROCKET ACTION. And I have just one more reason why he will win.
Frank said the race will suit him because both My Laureate and Muker – the two market leaders – are both front runners while Rocket Action is a closer. They might set it up for him and they might pull each other about in front, so Rocket Action for me as well.
