His Salisbury form shouldn’t be taken at face value, as RIVERS LAD set a steady pace in that small field, but plenty of positives can be taken from that run. He also showed promise on the all-weather the time before too.
Rivers Lad is 9lb ahead of the handicapper today and is the selection ahead of soft-ground winner Dark Illusion. Imperium Blue and Prince Of Abington are others to consider.
13:35 Logician
Usually run at Ascot. LOGICIAN has run just once this year and didn’t have to be at his best to score at Doncaster last month, but he did it with plenty in hand and last year’s St Leger winner can maintain his unbeaten record. Dual Canadian International winner Desert Encounter is second choice, ahead of Great Voltigeur runner-up Highland Chief.
14:05 Boardman
Baronial Pride has potential off his current mark and is a tempting option having run well on the back of an absence in the past. But, preference is for BOARDMAN who was an eye-catching fifth at Chester recently on his first run for Tim Easterby.
Ouzo is on a handy mark and is third choice, while the lightly raced Chance could be a major player if the ground suits (unraced on slower than good). Plantadream, Hortzadar, Alternative Fact and last year’s winner Crownthorpe are others who can go well.
14:40 Favorite Moon
A red-hot three-year-old handicap featuring some future staying stars. FAVORITE MOON (NAP) bounced back to form with an impressive win at Haydock last month and is taken to follow up. Zeeband is coming along nicely and is second choice, but Strawberry Rock, Ispahan and Prince Alex are similarly progressive and could all be big dangers.

15:10 Cottam Lane
The Kevin Ryan-trained COTTAM LANE sets a useful standard and is taken to follow up his comfortable Beverley win. Radrizzani is an interesting newcomer for David O’Meara and is feared most, with Chelmsford winner Shalaa Asker and the once-raced Rose All Day others to consider.
15:45 Mighty Spirit
Illusionist looks interesting back at his optimum trip in first-time cheekpieces and Teruntum Star, whose handicap record in October reads 0140351, is another to consider. Machree, Lihou and Militia also have possibilities, but the vote goes to MIGHTY SPIRIT.
Quicker ground would have been ideal for Celsius. However, his 5-furlong record in fields of 12 or more runners stands at 12101 and he could also have a say.
16:20 Orgetorix
Although Echo Beach has run well on his last two starts, and Jakacan is progressive, this can go to ORGETORIX. He hails from the Ralph Beckett yard, which is in fine form and who should improve on his debut third at Newbury.
16:50 Blue Skyline
In what looks an open handicap it could pay to side with BLUE SKYLINE, who appreciated the return to 7 furlongs on soft ground when winning at Newmarket two starts ago. Captain Claret looks interesting dropped in trip and he may be next best, ahead of Zip and True Blue Moon.
