In the end, it all seemed so easy.
Laughifyouwant (14/1) got his head in front on the line to nab the €45k first prize for winning connections of the Irish Cambridgeshire at the Curragh on Friday, but just as importantly landed a cool €5k for the winning ticket holder in our sweepstake, Emmet Kelleher.
Kelleher had gotten number 4 in Thursday’s sweepstake draw as the final field was declared for the big race and was lucky enough to hit on the improving five-year-old, who had just one run at Galway before pitching up at the Curragh to land Friday’s big prize.
Having the reigning Irish Irish champion jockey Colin Keane on your side was another big plus, as push came to more push in the closing stages in testing conditions at the home of Irish Flat racing that saw Laughifyouwant – and Paddy Power customer Emmet Kelleher – land the booty.
We spoke to Emmet on Friday night and he was still a bit stunned by his sudden windfall.
“I’ve no plans for the money, but a possible staycation in Ireland next weekend could be on the cards now depending on the club football championships,” Kelleher said.
“I had a few quid each-way on the winner for luck and also did Flaming Moon who finished seventh.”
And it wasn’t the first stroke of good fortune Kelleher has had on the ponies as a Lucky 15 at Dundalk in January 2019 saw him net him €4,600 off Paddy.
“I haven’t done the lotto in a while but I’ll definitely be buying a ticket this weekend.
“Thanks a million for everything, that’s made my year.”
Paddy Power €/£5k Sweepstakes winner: Thanks Paddy, you’ve made my year!
