What a week ahead with four glorious days at York and some of the best horses on the planet on show. Usually ITV show four races each day but there’s an extra one this time around which is top work from the terrestrial broadcaster.
Let’s get straight to it and try and take some cash off Paddy.
13:45 Arecibo
We get under way with a handicap over an extended 5f. ARECIBO is a pain in the backside for me as he’s such a well handicapped horse but rarely wins. I have to give him another go here even though Jawwaal will be tough to beat. Trained by David O’Meara and ridden by Danny Tudhope, Arecibo has run really well on his last two visits to York and you can forget his last effort as a small field is not his thing.
14:15 Royal Scimitar (e/w)
Next up we are straight to Group 3 company with the Acomb Stakes over 7f for juveniles. I will have a few quid eachway here on ROYAL SCIMITAR for the Golden Horde team of Clive Cox and Adam Kirby. My hope won in tenacious style on his debut at Newbury and the runner-up has since gone in twice. The extra furlong here should be ideal and he has every chance of being super decent.
14:45 Mogul
Classic hopes in the mix now with the Group 2 Great Voltigeur over 1m4f. Darain is the fascinating runner, but hard to oppose MOGUL after he bounced back to his best at Goodwood last time in the Gordon Stakes. That was a decent enough effort and he’s clearly a good colt. He’s not unbeatable, but he should be hard to stop for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore.
15:15 Ghaiyyath
This is the main event of the day, the Group 1 Juddmonte International over an extended 1m2f. It’s hard not to see GHAIYYATH having an easy lead here as Rose of Kildare is not good enough to lead him for very long should she chose to do so. The Coronation Cup and Eclipse winner is very hard to oppose in that scenario and looks a worthy favourite for Charlie Appleby and William Buick.
15:45 Makawee
And finally a handicap over an extended 2m. MAKAWEE has been running well enough over shorter to have every chance of at least reaching a place in this. Trained by O’Meara and ridden by David Nolan, but hope is dropping down the weights a fraction and has proved in the past that this trip is not an issue. I give her an eachway shout at a big price.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas! You hear me Paddy?
