There’s something for everyone on ITV Racing on Friday with Newmarket building up once again to the July Cup on Saturday and a bit of jumps racing at Market Rasen. So, let’s get straight to it and try and find a few winners.
The Flat racing at Newmarket starts with a handicap over 7f. This is wide open. ZHUI FENG is going to open up somewhere soon and this might be his chance. He ran terribly for Amanda Perrett at Ascot last time, but he’s down the weights and well handicapped if Jim Crowley can get a tune out of him.
Next at Newmarket is the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes for fillies over 6f. A hot heat with the improving Time Scale and decent Albany winner Dandalla. MORE BEAUTIFUL flopped in the Queen Mary, but she looks sure to improve for another furlong here and must be better than we saw at Royal Ascot for Aidan O’Brien. I will give her another chance.
Another handicap here over 1m6f this time. Hard to find a well handicapped horse in this that hasn’t been off the track a long time. The one who might have more to come is SAM COOKE, who is very lightly raced but will like any juice in the ground. He should enjoy the step up in trip for Ralph Beckett and Harry Bentley and one would think he’d be pretty straight.
Back in handicap company here with a contest over 1m2f. I like the look of GLOBAL STORM eachway here for the Eclipse team of William Buick and Charlie Appleby. He ran well at Royal Ascot and there should be more to come.
And finally the big one of the day, the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes for fillies and mares over 1m. Hard to get away from the improving TEREBELLUMhere, who went very close to landing the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot. She has pace but also stays well for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori.
Meanwhile, ITV show two races over jumps from Market Rasen.
The jumps kick off with a handicap hurdle over an extended 2m. This is hard! RED FORCE ONE was readied for this with a run on the Flat the other day and might take some stopping for the former champion Paul Nicholls. Harry Cobden rides my hope who went very close to winning a handicap in November off just 1lb lower.
Now we have a handicap chase over an extended 2m5f. Again, a really competitive heat. ROYAL VILLAGE should at the very least give us a run for our money. He ran well in this last year when runner-up and although not the best handicapped is there to have every chance for Ian Williams and Tom O’Brien.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
