For one Irish Paddy Power punter last Sunday could not have been much sweeter as their bumper bet gave us a good spanking.
The crafty so-and-so from Enniscorthy, Co Wexford landed nearly €4,500 from just a €1.65 stake after amazingly calling four winners from races at meetings in Sandown and Haydock.
To make matter even worse for the bean counters in Power Tower, our victor managed to capture the loot from the Lucky 15 punt in just a little over an hour and 15 minutes!
Our winner’s great day started at Haydock as Clive Cox’s COBH scored victory in the opener (12:00) at a price of 12/1. The colt kept on well to see off Shobiz by just a neck and get the bet off to the perfect start.
Next on the hit-list was the 12:30 at the same venue and it was LOVE POWERFUL’s turn to add to the winnings, coming home at 17/2. The Richard Hannon-trained filly took the lead a furlong out from Magical Journey and never looked back to make it two-from-two for our victor.
Then, just 30 minutes later at the Lancashire track, it was ARCHER’S DREAM turn to pile on the cash. Jockey Tom Marquand’s steered her to success at 16/1 ahead of the much-fancied Snazzy Jazzy.
Finally, with fingernails probably well-and-truly chewed, our winner switched attention to the 13:15 at Sandown and it was GUSSY MAC who carried all the hopes of netting a nifty pay-out. Thankfully, Roger Teal’s colt delivered the goods at 10/1, running on well inside the final furlong to leave Significantly in arrears and our punter in dreamland!
All in, the €1.65 stake returned €4,491, beating odds of 2,721/1 and it also sealed a spot in the coveted Punting Hall of Fame for our victor. Not bad for a lazy Sunday eh?
