Improving Peaceful will be tough to beat at Royal Ascot

It may not have been a strong renewal of the Irish 1000 Guineas, but PEACEFUL had improved with every start last year and took another step forward to run out a convincing winner on her return to action.

Her task was made easier by the favourite Albigna underperforming, but there was no denying her superiority on the day and she may not have shown everything she has to offer.

Peaceful, whose rating improved to 112p from 106p, will stay a mile and a quarter when the time comes. However, with stablemate Love set for the Oaks at Epsom, she may be turned out quickly in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday and will take all the beating.

Siskin puts any stamina doubts to rest

The Irish 2000 Guineas was a rather messy affair, the field never getting strung out despite what seemed a fair pace. Almost everything met trouble at some point, including impressive winner SISKIN.

Unbeaten in four starts as a juvenile, including the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes over 6 furlongs, Siskin dispelled any doubts about his stamina for a mile while confirming his potent turn of foot remains intact – impressing with how quickly he put the race to bed once getting into the clear.

The performance was backed up by a solid timefigure, and there is the prospect of even better to come.

Siskin (whose rating improved to 120p from 114p) is reportedly set to take on his elders in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood next.

Franconia has a very bright future

The betting told you that a big run was expected from FRANCONIA in the mile-and-a-quarter Listed race at Newbury on Saturday and she duly showed much improved to justify market confidence.

Franconia, who was runner-up on debut over 7 furlongs, appeared to relish the step up in trip as she beat a field of unexposed fillies in the style of one who is ready for a higher grade. The pleasing visual impression backed up by a solid timefigure.

She has plenty of stamina in her pedigree, and she would have no problem staying a mile and a half.

She received quotes for the Oaks on the back of that performance, but John Gosden reported afterwards that she would likely head to the rearranged Musidora Stakes at York next.
