Chevalier Prince was third on debut over 1200m at Sha Tin. He looks like the extra 200m will suit him and, in any language, is the one they all have to beat. I’m going to take him on though with CASA DE FORCA. This horse has failed to win in 18 starts, however he has been going well of late. He also looks like he might be down to a more suitable mark. He will needs to overcome the wide draw, but I fancy his chances of doing so.
DIAMOND BRILLIANT is a consistent sort having placed in each of his last four outings. The booking of Joao Moreira as his jockey is a tip in itself and this horse looks to me like the one they all have to get in front of to have any chance.
EVER LAUGH looked to have the race won in his last start over the course and distance, but he weakened late on. The six-year-old was a winner over 1m at this track three starts back though, and also has to be respected with Zac Purton in the saddle for the first time. The veteran has won five times at this track and that has to count for something.
Uncle Steve rallied well to grab third last time he went over 1m. The five-year-old, who has been inconsistent in the past, has drawn well here in barrier 4 with Chad Schofield onboard. BUTTERFIELD carries top-weight, but still gets the services of Joao Moreira. The four-year-old placed in a Class 1 race a couple of starts ago and bagged a win over track and trip back in February. His last display over 1m hinted that he wanted further. He gets that here, so this should suit him.
KA YING EXCELLENT will be racing among Class 3 company for the first time on Sunday morning. Despite that, this horse should be very difficult to beat. The Tony Cruz-trained gelding is in a rich vein of form, with a win and two places in his last three spins. He will also be looking to gain revenge on Team Power, who beat him last time over track and trip. Vincent Ho rides again and with the horse a dropping a fair amount of weight, I expect fireworks here from this talented horse.
PRESIDENT’S CHOICE is seeking a hat-trick in the finale and to me looks like he may well land it. He dips his toe in Class 3 company for the first time here, which is a step into the unknown. But, the dominant and impressive way he has been winning his races cannot be ignored.
