The fourth day of the Punchestown Festival is upon us, with the Paddy Power Champion Hurdle taking centre stage on an eight-race schedule.
Trainer Henry de Bromhead and jockey Rachael Blackmore are hoping to secure another Honeysuckle victory to follow on from their Cheltenham success.
Blackmore will have to fend off the likes of Epatante, Abacadabras and Goshen in the 17:25 race.
New to Paddy Power?
Top pundit Ruby Walsh and Paddy Power assessed the Punchestown card on the latest edition of Paddy Power’s From the Horses Mouth podcast, focusing on this week’s showcase Festival that brings the curtain down on the Irish jumps season.
15:40 – Beyond Redemption
It’s really hard to have a strong fancy in this very strange race. I’ve gone for Beyond Redemption purely on the Jamie Codd jockey booking, which is usually a shrewd move.
16:15 – Port Stanley
Port Stanley is pretty consistent and has some decent from on decent ground so he could get in the shakeup here in a very open race.
16:50 – Magic Of Light
Magic Of Light is a top class performer on her day. I’d say the trip is as short as she’d like but she unseated at the fourth in the Grand National so she didn’t have a hard race. Worth noting she’s at her best at this time of year.
17:25 – Honeysuckle
Honeysuckle is simply just too good. Goshen, Aspire Tower and Jason The Militant will make it a proper gallop which plays into her hands. Her jumping at Cheltenham was poetry in motion, more of the same please!
18:00 – Bob Olinger
If you offered me one horse to take home from Cheltenham, I’d have taken Bob Olinger (not that I’ve anywhere to put him!). I was so taken with how powerful he looked, he’s a superstar in the making.
18:35 – Bob And Co
From one Bob to another. Bob And Co unseated three out when going well at Cheltenham but subsequently won by 41L next time so was none the worse for it. Paul Nicholls isn’t sending him over for the craic.
19:05 – Dreamsrmadeofthis
A bit of a leap here. Dreamsrmadeofthis was very impressive on his only start when winning at Cork. He is obviously inexperienced but is also therefore unexposed. I’m taking a chance that it’s a good ‘un.
19:35 – Stone Mad
Stone Mad is very well bred and owned by Sean Mulryan, who’s a Punchestown local. Add in Derek O’Connor being booked by Martin Brassil and it all adds up to an interesting one to keep an eye on in the market.
