17:30: Passional (NAP)

PASSIONAL has been thriving since joining Stuart Williams’s yard towards the end of last year, taking a couple of runs to warm up but not looking back once she got her head in front, reeling off a quick-fire hat-trick over the Christmas period. She failed in her attempt to land the four-timer at Lingfield last month, but can be forgiven that run after breaking through the stalls pre-race, and she quickly put that effort behind her when regaining the winning thread at Chelmsford last time, producing her best performance to date to win by a length and a half. That was in an apprentice handicap, so she escapes a penalty for that performance, and she is the clear one to beat if continuing in her current vein of form.

19:30: Castle Quarter (NB)

CASTLE QUARTER ran with plenty of credit on his debut on both fibresand, and for new trainer Michael Appleby when second over this course and distance last month, doing plenty on the front end but sticking to his task well to prove himself at the trip. He backed that up with another good effort when third at Newcastle last time, travelling better than most and still with every chance over a furlong out, his effort just flattening out late on. It is still early days with him for this yard and he is fancied to open his account for his new stable on his return to the fibresand surface.

20:00: Go On Gal (E/W)

A dual-winner over this course-and-distance for Julia Feilden, GO ON GAL ran creditably on her first outing for Michael Appleby’s yard when second over this track and trip last time, that performance particularly encouraging given it was her first outing for 26 months. She was ultimately no match for the reopposing Aria Rose on that occasion, but she raced freely in the early stages and certainly did not enjoy the run of the race when push came to shove, short of room over two furlongs out and forced to switch. She is entitled to come on for that run and has joined a stable that can capitalise on her basement mark. She looks competitive on form and a bold showing is surely on the cards.
