A fresh race for the Cheltenham Festival when a fourth day was added to the meeting in 2005, the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle has become a hit with punters – and this year’s renewal looks set to be a classic.

A total of 12 hurdles over a distance of about 3m on the New Course at Prestbury Park await the novice hurdlers, with Willie Mullins’ exciting six-year-old Stattler, Paul Nicholls’ Barbados Buck’s and the Denise Foster-trained duo Fakiera and Torygraph all prominent in the betting.

The race has yet to be dominated by a single trainer since its inception, although Mullins has claimed two of the last four renewals with Penhill and Monkfish triumphing in 2017 and 2020 respectively. A prize pot worth around £130,000 will be shared by those finishing in the places after a gruelling 2m 7f 213y of hurdling action.

ALBERT BARTLETT NOVICES’ HURDLE TIPS

Ruby Walsh: “The make up of this race keeps changing and I’ve tipped about six horses at this stage in all previews since last Winter. FAKIERA still looks the one who will appreciate this 3m stamina test them most.”

FULL PREVIEW: RUBY WALSH’S CHEAT SHEET FOR FRIDAY

Frank Hickey: “I have been really keen on FAKIERA for this race since back in December when he was second in a Grade 2 at Navan. He lacked the tactical pace there but was staying on really strongly at the finish, replicating the sort of run he produced when winning at Grade 3 level on his previous start.”

Mick Fitzgerald:STREETS OF DOYEN has won at the track at an earlier meeting and his Irish trainer John McConnell has a good record when sending horses to Cheltenham.”
