Horse Racing tips: Ruby Walsh's 7 super selections at Navan and Cork

Ruby Walsh has picked out his seven top selections ahead of a packed day of racing in Ireland on Sunday.

Speaking on the latest episode of Paddy Power’s From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, our resident jockey-turned-pundit ran through some of the highlights on busy cards at Navan and Cork – with Willie Mullins entering a number of runners at the latter.

12.10pm, Navan – Farouk Dalene

FAROUK DALENE will win. I was really impressed with him at Down Royal. He drops back a few furlongs in trip but he will win.

2.20pm, Navan – Minella Indo

I completely concur with Frank Hickey in his praise of MINELLA INDO, and I’m not sure if we saw the best of him last season. He got run over by Laurina on his seasonal debut and I know he won next time out at Navan but he only scraped home. I think Minella Indo looked to me like the horse that won the Albert Bartlett and then beat Allaho at Punchestown. This is an outlier in the Gold Cup.

3.30pm, Navan – Castra Vetera

Joseph O’Brien has a couple of runners here while I thought Angels Dawn ran well for a maiden on her last start behind Jungle Boogie at Clonmel last week. They pulled a long way clear of the remainder, but she doesn’t get much of an allowance. She’s only getting 1lb off some four-year-old winners. Party Central would look the obvious one for Jamie Codd and Gordon Elliott, having won at Tipperary when she beat Magical Orla. That was a good performance.

Tom Hamilton has gone for CASTRA VETERA, the Gigginstown runner, and she won on her last start when she beat Royal Kahala at Naas in March. She was a little disappointing at the Dublin Racing Festival behind Darling Daughter but she beat Carrigeen Lotus at Fairyhouse in December and she is a really good mare as well. I’m going to side with the top weight.

Cork

Willie Mullins has a couple of runners at Cork on Sunday and Paul Townend actually goes there. He ride GANAPATHI in the first race at 11.55am, and he’s a nice horse who seems to be working well at home.

At 12.25pm we run a horse called GRAND BORNARD in Rich Ricci’s colours. I particularly like him, he goes really well and I would expect him to be able to deliver in the second race.

In the third race at 12.55pm, APPRECIATE IT runs. Obviously runner-up in last year’s Cheltenham bumper behind Ferny Hollow. He schooled brilliantly at home, so we’ve been pretty happy with him as well.

YUKON IL goes to post in the Mares’ Chase at 2.35pm. She schools really well and has plenty of pace. She has Gin On Lime to beat but I’m not surprised Paul Townend has gone to Cork on Sunday.
