Confirmed Celebration Chase 2024 runners and riders for Saturday’s big race at Sandown

El Fabiolo v Jonbon... bring it on!

El Fabiolo is confirmed to make the trip across the Irish Sea to tackle big rival Jonbon in the Grade 1 Celebration Chase on the Jumps season finale in Britain this Saturday.

The 2023 Arkle winner has not been seen since a wretched display in the Champion Chase at last month’s Cheltenham Festival but gets the call to try and land the big prize of £96,815 as trainer Willie Mullins deploys some big guns at the Esher track in search of the British Trainers’ Championship.

It is currently 1-1 between El Fabiolo and Jonbon, but the latter heads to Sandown in winning form after a classy display in the Melling Chase at Aintree just over two weeks ago.

While Jonbon’s trainer Nicky Henderson is not in the title race, Dan Skelton is and he will be hoping Nube Negra can spring a surprise and land the prize money. The good ground is likely to be a plus but the former Spanish Flat runner is the lowest-rated horse in the pack.

2022 Tingle Creek winner Edwardstone is bidding to bounce back from a fall in the Champion Chase and could be the principal rival to the big two if jockey Tom Cannon employs the front-running tactics that proved successful in the Game Spirit Chase.

Editeur Du Gite and Elixir De Nutz are the other Grade 1 winners in the field, although their victories at the top level came in renewals of the Clarence House Chase that fell apart.

Boothill has plenty to prove on his first try and an open company Grade 1 after falling in his last two outings.
