The lack of depth at the top of the two-mile chasing division means the feature race on the second day of the fiesta already appears to be a straight shootout between rising stars El Fabiolo and Jonbon.
We are likely to be denied a clash of the generations as Energumene, the winner of the last two editions of the Champion Chase, is set to miss the entire campaign through injury.
The Champion Chase is one of the most testing races on the Cheltenham Festival schedule as a massive engine and foot-perfect jumping at speed are required.
As the leading minimum-distance chase on the calendar, it is hardly surprising that some of the greatest to have graced the game feature on the roll of honour.
