When is the Cesarewitch? Newmarket date, start time, runners and betting

The National Hunt lads fancy their chances in this!

Run For Oscar wins the 2022 Cesarewitch

The Cesarewitch at Newmarket takes pride of place on the British racing calendar as the last major handicap of the Flat season.

One of the most competitive contests of the year thanks to a maximum field of 34 horses being allowed to take part, it is an attritional affair thanks to its official distance of 2m2f and Jumps fans will likely recognise a number of names in the lineup.

Run For Oscar came out on top in last year’s renewal to continue Ireland’s – and National Hunt’s – recent dominance of the race and leading trainers across both codes are set to be well represented.

You can run the rule over our Cesarewitch odds on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise all the key details about this year’s renewal can be found below.

Grade 2-winning hurdler Pied Piper is the favourite with Paddy Power for the Cesarewitch after a spin on the Flat in late August.

Grand Providence is next in our market after a course-and-distance victory in the Cesarewitch Trial.

Last year’s runner-up Vino Victrix is also prominent in the betting after showing signs of life off his current handicap mark of 90 – 2lbs lower than last season – at Goodwood last time out.
