The St James’s Place Festival Hunters Chase is a chance for amateur jockeys to ride the Gold Cup track and trip at the Cheltenham Festival.
It is a race steeped in history having been run for the first time all the way back in 1904, but it is the least lucrative of all 28 races on the Cheltenham Festival 2023 schedule due to its classification as a Class 2 and the quality of horses on show.
Racegoers were treated to a thrilling renewal 12 months ago as Billaway came from a long way off the pace to pip Winged Leader to the post and hand trainer Willie Mullins and jockey Patrick Mullins their maiden victory in the race.
You can run the rule over our Festival Hunters’ Chase odds on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise all the key details about this year’s renewal can be found below.

Vaucelet is the favourite with Paddy Power for the Festival Hunters’ Chase after landing a whole host of races over the past year including the Stratford Foxhunters Champion Hunters’ Chase.
Stablemate Ferns Lock is next in the betting after trouncing Billaway at Thurles in January and looks to be the new kid on the block.
Trainer David Christie also has Winged Leader prominent in our non runner money back market for the Festival Hunters’ Chase.
