Six runners have been declared for the King George VI 2022. Westover and Emily Upjohn are in receipt of 11lbs due to the weight-for-age allowance, while the latter takes off a further 3lbs for fillies and mares. All the horses bar Emily Upjohn have previously scored at Group 1 level including last year’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Torquator Tasso, who is set to make his debut in the UK.

Epsom Derby third Westover heads the betting after the winner on that day, Desert Crown, was ruled out due to a foot niggle. Colin Keane will be on board after piloting the favourite to a resounding success in last month’s Irish Derby at the Curragh.

Next in the betting is Mishriff, the emphatic winner of last season’s Juddmonte International, who looked back to his best when going down by a neck to French Derby hero Vadeni in the Coral-Eclipse at the start of the month.
Torquator Tasso, the shock winner of last year’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, is also prominent after warming up for this test with a comfortable success in the Grosser Hansa-Preis.
Broome impressively scored in last month’s Hardwicke Stakes over course and distance but Aidan O’Brien’s experienced runner is among the outsiders in our market.
Pyledriver scored the biggest win of his career to date when landing last year’s Coronation Cup and warmed up for this by finishing second in last month’s renewal at Epsom. Jockey Frankie Dettori rides Emily Upjohn instead.
Paddy Power spokesman Paul Binfield said: “It’s not one way traffic for Westover who is steady and we’ve also laid both the rerouted Emily Upjohn and Mishriff who ran better in this year’s Eclipse than last season when going on to finish runner-up to Adayar in the King George.”
