Ascot could play host to the hotly-anticipated clash between Energumene and Shishkin after the rising stars of the two-mile chase division were entered for next month’s Clarence House Chase.
We were denied a titanic battle between the talented pair in last season’s Arkle Chase after Energumene missed the Cheltenham Festival due to injury but Willie Mullins’ progressive charge is set to travel over from Ireland to Ascot for his second appearance of the current campaign.

Energumene won the Hilly Way Chase at Cork on seasonal reappearance at the start of December and it’s all systems go for the Grade 1 Clarence House Chase after sidestepping the Christmas action.
Shishkin made his first appearance of the season in the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton on Monday and demolished Tingle Creek Chase winner Greaneteen by 10l to brush off any concerns after missing the Sandown feature earlier this month.

Despite being the favourite for the Queen Mother Champion Chase, Nicky Henderson’s stable star is behind Energumene in our antepost book for the Clarence House Chase amid doubts whether he will be declared for Ascot.
A winner by 7l from Politologue in last season’s renewal, First Flow is third in the early betting behind the leading duo. He made a successful return to the track earlier this month when landing the Grade 2 Peterborough Chase from the likes of Funambule Sivola and Eldorado Allen.
Paul Nichols holds two entries for the Clarence House Chase and his leading hope, according to our antepost odds, is Hitman. The Haldon Gold Cup and Tingle Creek Chase second could be joined in the race by stablemate Rouge Vif.
Sky Pirate, Sizing Pottsie, Waiting Patiently and Amoola Gold round off the 11-strong entry list and our antepost betting market.
