Tingle Creek 2021: Shishkin tops antepost market as entries revealed

Shishkin is set to move out of novice company for the first time after being entered for next month’s Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown Park.

Trainer Nicky Henderson believes the dual Cheltenham Festival winner has the potential to follow in the hooves of Altior and Sprinter Sacre by becoming the dominant horse over the minimum trip but he’ll likely face a whole host of slick rivals if his unbeaten record over fences is put on the line on Saturday, December 4.

Willie Mullins has a terrific trio to choose from for the trip across the Irish Sea. Allaho, Chacun Pour Soi and Energumene all hold entries but the Closutton handler is likely to split the three horses between the Tingle Creek, Hilly Way Chase and John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase, which all take place over the same weekend.

Dan Skelton’s progressive Nube Negra laid down a marker at Cheltenham’s November Meeting by scoring a comfortable win in the Shloer Chase, while Paul Nicholls has entered last year’s winner Politologue, Celebration Chase champ Greaneteen, Hitman and Rouge Vif.

Captain Guinness, Cheddleton, Defi Du Seuil, First Flow and Paint The Dream complete the horses in the mix.

Despite a lack of experience in senior company, Shishkin tops our antepost betting market for the Tingle Creek, and Henderson is excited to see his promising charge make his seasonal reappearance.

“We knew before the season started this was going to be a hot division this year and Willie holds a lot of the cards,” said the Seven Barrows handler.

“I was hoping we might get a free run until after Christmas, but I can see Willie’s point – he’s got two or three to play with and is going to have to come here with something, otherwise he’ll run out of races in Ireland.

“Shishkin grew a lot during the summer. He’s now big, strong and fully matured – he’s ready to roll.”
