Ahead of next week’s Epsom Derby, legendary jumps jockey turned pundit Ruby Walsh and top trader Frank Hickey previewed the world’s greatest flat race on the latest edition of Paddy Power’s From The Horse’s Mouth podcast.
Paddy’s deadly duo delivered their antepost tips while Ruby eulogised over some of his favourite past winners and revealed the horse he would love to have ridden.

There’s been some great winners over the years. Obviously, Galileo jumps out as one of the best horses of all time. Nashwan was spectacular with Willie Carson when he won it in 1989. I thought he was a brilliant winner.
I loved Lammtarra because he was so inexperienced and Golden Horn was a good winner. My favourite was probably Pat Smullen winning on Harzand in 2016 but the best one was Galileo. I’d love to have ridden him. He’s incredible, isn’t he.
Epsom is a strange track. There’s no way if you sent someone out in 2021 to find somewhere to run the Derby that you’d pick Epsom.
New to Paddy Power?
It’s unique but it’s a challenge and that’s what makes it that bit special.
I don’t think I rode anywhere with the camber that’s on it. Epsom’s home straight is like a velodrome from outside to inside and that’s why you see horses falling down to the left.
The home straight is incredible and that’s what makes it such a unique place.
