Odds quoted on the widget are Future Racing/Antepost prices which means that if your selection does not run in the race for whatever reason – you will lose your stake under traditional Antepost rules.

Ahead of the action at Epsom,  former jockey turned pundit and Paddy Power Ambassador Ruby Walsh and top trader Frank Hickey looked ahead to the Derby, Oaks and Coronation Cup on the latest edition of Paddy Power’s From The Horse’s Mouth podcast.

Experience probably counted against Santa Barbara in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket on just her second ever start. Aidan O’Brien has won the Irish and English 1000 Guineas and Mother Earth did go close in France.

Santa Barbara is obviously well regarded and could improve for the step up in trip. The main issue with her is the price and whether there’s value in it.

Teona is too keen and I can’t have her stepping up in trip from the Musidora, even allowing for the sedate pace in that race. Snowfall got the run of the race in the Musidora with a finishing speed per cent of 112 according to Timeform.

Noon Star is bred for the job and the slow pace of the Musidora didn’t suit, but I did like the way she stayed on after being tapped for toe when the pace lifted. She is capable of running a big race and I’m not giving up on her yet.

You’re looking for something to take on Santa Barbara, who’s a very short price. However, trying to find that horse isn’t that straightforward!

Saffron Beach was second in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket but can you see her staying this extra hakf mil? She’s not bred to so I’m not so sure.

Snow Lantern was too keen at York so I can’t see her staying. Shale was a quick filly last year but we haven’t seen her since she was fifth at Leopardstown in April. She missed both Guineas so that’s a concern, where has she gone?

Zeyaadah and Dubai Fountain don’t jump out at you. I wouldn’t be surprised if the form turned around but I’m not rushing to back them as an Oaks winner.

Sea Empress had the profile after winning first time out, beating Teona at Newcastle. However, she disappointed big time at Newbury earlier this month. She could be an interesting one for her price but you’ll have to be willing to forgive that Newbury run. Sea Empress may potentially be the best option to take on Santa Barbara.
