17:45 Irish Admiral

The form standard is set by the ex-Irish IRISH ADMIRAL, who was placed in Listed grade when last seen. Big Wing and Desert Emperor are the main threats, in that order of preference.

18:15 Spirit Mixer

Likely improver SPIRIT MIXER gets the vote, and he’ll be all the more interesting if the market speaks in his favour. Lochnaver, another handicap newcomer by Frankel, is second choice. Invincible Gift and Rain Gauge are other unexposed types to consider, while Spirit Of Rowdown brings a solid profile.

18:45 Helian

An interesting race and the three that appeal most are the bottom three on the card. Estate House ended last season with a win at this track and he’s open to more progress this term, while course hat-trick seeker Pope Gregory is strongly respected back up in trip in his bid to make it 5-8 in cheekpieces. However, slight preference is for HELIAN, who was heavily backed on his recent stable debut and produced a strong finish out widest of all to go close in a similar event over C&D.

19:15 Labeebb (NAP)

This can go to LABEEBB (nap), who finished first past the post in three of his five starts last term (including over C&D) and ended that campaign with a close third in a Class 2 event at Ascot. This lightly raced 4yo is only 1lb higher on this drop back in grade and he’s open to further progress this season. The main danger is He’s A Keeper, who had a productive time in similar events here towards the end of last year and is still unexposed at this trip.

Good Listener justified favouritism at Windsor in his final 2yo run and is respected under a penalty on his reappearance. General Sago, who was third over 6f at Pontefract two weeks ago and has claims if he can build on that. However, the vote goes to EQUALITY, who took a major step forward when going close at Lingfield on his return and is open to more progress on his drop back in trip.

20:15 Star Ascending

Preference is for five-time C&D winner STAR ASCENDING, who finished well to go close over 9.4f here last time and is only 1lb higher on this step back up in trip. Recent Bath winner Clog Na Fola is feared most, though Givepeaceachance was successful over hurdles last month and looks interesting off a dangerous mark back in this sphere. The other one on the shortlist is Yagood, who caught the eye with his late headway behind the selection three weeks ago and is well treated if he can build on that.
