Horse Racing tips: Our Daily Double can light up Wolverhampton on Friday

William Haggas has been getting a few winners lately and he has a decent chance of adding to his tally in this Classified Claiming Race with COQUETTA. The four-year-old filly is clearly no stable star, but finished in the money in her three maidens prior to flopping on her handicap debut over this trip at Kempton a couple of weeks ago.

She was prominent until the last two furlongs on that latest start and the jockey wasn’t too hard on her once she ran out of puff. The short run in here at Wolverhampton should suit and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Cieran Fallon try to make all on her before kicking at an opportune moment off the last turn. I’ll take a chance she’ll strip fitter tonight and get our bet off to a good start.

20:15 Manumission

MANUMISSION has his first start for trainer Robert Cowell in this low-class affair. Formerly trained by James Given, this four-year-old colt has more potential for improvement than Friday’s moderate opposition. The horse started his career on the Tapeta surface at Newcastle before showing ability when beaten only 3 lengths at Thirsk. He subsequently flopped in his last start for Given before being moved on.

All three starts to date were over 6 furlongs and on the evidence of his latest start. it’s easy to see why he’s been dropped in trip on tonight’s handicap debut. Robert Cowell has booked Benoit De La Sayette for the ride.

He’s a very eager and capable 18-year-old claimer that has already been touted as a future champion jockey despite only riding his first winner a few weeks ago. Sayette is under the stewardship of John Gosden, so he’s definitely in the right place to learn his trade. He also a great strike rate of winners over the last couple of weeks too.

Manumission looks to have been very fairly assessed by the handicapper, this is a perfectly winnable race and the jockey booking is an eye-catcher. He’s an unexposed horse and Cowell has a respectable 12% strike rate with four-year-olds on all-weather tracks over the last five seasons. The drop in trip looks ideal and taking into consideration that he has previous experience on a Tapeta surface, he gets a confident vote.
