These fences will test Cornerstone Lad’s mettle as a chaser and this high-class hurdler is probably best watched against horses with the benefit of experience. As Elvis Mail rode his luck at Ayr when getting low at some of his fences, preference is for CHEDDLETON. He made a mistake at the wrong time when just behind Ubetya at Uttoxeter, but then did it very nicely at Carlisle.

12:55 Nada To Prada

Rayna’s World boasts the best form, but is not easily trusted after coming up short when long odds-on at Hexham – even allowing for the trip of 2m being too short. It’s all about the potential with NADA TO PRADA, but she looked good at Ffos Las and will love the ground. Farne’s smart bumper form is not forgotten and it was good to see her back on track at Lingfield.

13:30 Frero Banbou

All six have something to prove in a trappy handicap. A stiffish handicap mark is the question mark against FRERO BANBOU, but he edges preference after running well for a long way on his second race back from an absence. Destined To Shine is the second choice, in the hope he can rediscover the form he showed on his reappearance.

14:05 Albert’s Back

Recent course and distance winner War Lord is hard to knock with a 7lbs rise not necessarily a barrier to him following up, and the third Our Power should be hot on his heels armed with a 6lbs pull. However, ALBERT’S BACK appears to be still improving judged by his manner of victory at Wetherby and the second was running a cracker when falling late on at Cheltenham last week. Electron Bleu could be a lively one at greater odds.

14:40 Highest Sun

Sojourn and Hill Sixteen are promising young chasers with momentum behind them and both are much respected, as is Enqarde at the very foot of the weights. However, it’s well worth taking a risk with HIGHEST SUN (NAP), who has perhaps been running over trips too short and on ground not soft enough. It bodes well that at Newbury last time he produced one of his best rounds of jumping. Sojourn is feared most.

15:15 Planet Nine

Although bred to stay this longer trip, Queenohearts would be entitled to finish tired under these conditions on her first run since the Cheltenham Festival of 2019. Alternatives don’t leap off the page, but PLANET NINE is better than he showed when No Hiding Place dominated throughout at Carlisle and he’s run well in both his starts on heavy ground.
