The progressive MRS HYDE sets a useful standard in her bid for a Listed hat-trick but she’s only a tentative selection, as most of her rivals are interesting and potentially capable of better yet. Will Victory is the narrow second choice ahead of Estelle Ma Belle but a few others also make appeal and it’s not a totally straightforward race to assess.
Next Destination made a pleasing return from a long absence for his new trainer in a Wetherby Grade 2 hurdle last month and has the potential to take high rank among this season’s staying novice chasers but this is clearly no easy introduction to fences and he’s opposed with KALOOKI. This 6yo gave his backers a couple of frights when making a winning chase debut here at the beginning of the month but there were also some very good leaps for one so inexperienced and he looks sure to build on that promising start.
Another competitive turnout for this race named in honour of Sir Peter O’Sullevan, whose colours are carried by the JP McManus-owned runners. Canelo and 2018 winner Kapcorse may prove best of that group. Almazhar Garde and Court Master also figure highly in calculations but the suggestion is DOCTOR DEX, who made a winning reappearance last term and is open to further improvement upped in distance. Second choice is Canelo.
The handicap that TEA CLIPPER won with authority at Chepstow is always strong and the forecast good ground here will suit him better than some of his rivals. Nicky Henderson has won the last two runnings of this race and has live chances through Champagne Platinum and Rathhill, who are feared most in that order. On The Wild Side is dangerously unexposed and he too commands respect.
Nicky Henderson won this race last year with high-class mare Epatante and he’s represented by a couple of progressive mares this time round, notably the unbeaten Marie’s Rock who looks an exciting prospect for this season. She has to be feared despite an 11-month absence but the race-fit BOTOX HAS is taken to defy top weight and continue his improvement. Thyme White is also strongly respected.

Having finished first and second in the Ultima Handicap at the Cheltenham Festival, THE CONDITIONAL (nap) and Kildisart look set for leading roles once again, with Kildisart having less to prove on good ground but The Conditional shaping more clearly as if the best from him is still to come. David Bridgwater’s charge can go one better than he did in this race last year. It is hard to be categorical about how good ground, as opposed to softer, would affect the chances of many in this field.
Make sure you OPT IN before placing any bets on this race.
However, it looks sure to benefit Secret Investor who returned in sparkling form at Chepstow seven weeks ago, beating Potterman who ran so well on his next start, and the Nicholls runner may provide the greatest threat to the selection in this Paddy Power Millionaire Chase Qualifier. Black Op could also have a big shout but this left-handed track and good ground are nagging concerns for the very promising Vinndication.
Ibleo has solid form claims but it’s all on soft/heavy ground so he’s opposed with MOONLIGHTER who was an excellent front-running second in the Haldon Gold Cup on good going last time. The Russian Doyen was better than being pulled up in the Paddy Power might suggest and is another who could go well over a C&D where he’s enjoyed success before.
