What is an each way Lucky 63?

There are a lot of bets in a Lucky 63 each way wager but they’re not hard to place.

Lucky 63 each way bets provide punters with even more insurance when seeking profit but do come at a higher price than standard Lucky 63s.

The each way element of this bet structure means you can afford for some horses to place, instead of win, and still walk home with a decent payout.

We’ve already discussed what a Lucky 63 is in our previous guide. Now, it’s time to look at Lucky 63 each way bets and how they differ from the standard wager.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

What is an each way Lucky 63?

An each way Lucky 63 consists of six each way selections that combine to create 126 different wagers. That may sound like a lot of bets but thankfully you still only have to make six picks.

Lucky 63 EW bets are most commonly found in horse racing where you can split your stake and back a horse to win and to place. The idea is to combine each selection in various forms of doubles, trebles, etc and bet on each combination.

This way you win more money if all six picks come good, and can still earn good profit if a few selections fail.

How each way Lucky 63s work

A Lucky 63 each way wager is built off a traditional Lucky 63. So, you have your standard 63 bets from six selections. However, the EW element means you also back each combination to place, as well as win. In doing so, you create 126 different bets, as shown here:

  • 6x singles
  • 6x EW singles
  • 15x doubles
  • 15x EW doubles
  • 20x trebles
  • 20x EW trebles
  • 15x four-folds
  • 15x EW four-folds
  • 6x five-folds
  • 6x EW five-folds
  • 1x six-fold
  • 1x EW six-fold

Here’s a Lucky 63 each way example. You bet on six races at Naas:

  • Icare Desbois at 2.20 EW
  • Verbal Sparring at 5.50 EW
  • Dr Eggman at 1.44 EW
  • Three In A Row at 3.55 EW
  • Coillte Aris at 3.20 EW
  • King Kali at 3.75 EW

A £1 Lucky 63 here pays a maximum £4,212.44. Hit the EW button and you double your per-bet stake to £2, meaning your overall stake is now £126. In return, your maximum profit potential rises to £4,415.23. Notice that your profit potential doesn’t double but you get the insurance of earning money even if a horse places.

Each way Lucky 63 tips

Turning your Lucky 63 bet each way can be a useful way of insulating yourself from surprise defeats but you need to bear in mind how much you will stake by hitting that ‘EW’ button.

It’s therefore important to know what you’re doing with Lucky 63 EWs because they can soon spiral. Below are some simple tips to get started if you’re new to this bet type…

Start Small – Remember, a £1 Lucky 63 EW bet will cost you £126 up front. You might make that back but you also might not. Be sure to set a budget that you are comfortable with and don’t be afraid to reduce your single stake. Only bet what you can comfortably afford, even if this means 5p per stake.

Gauge your profit potential – How many selections need to win or place in order for you to make profit on your each way Lucky 63? It’s worth checking, because then you can figure out whether the risk is worth it. If you’re simply looking to make a profit then you’ll need to see what selections need to win or place in order to land you £126 from a £1 bet.

Stay in one place – Most EW Lucky 63 bets focus on horse racing. It’s worth staying in one place here and only betting on races from the same course. This way you can do the racecourse research – including understanding the going, the weather, and the grade of each race – in one swoop. If you pick horses from six races at six different racecourses then you’ll have to do six times the research!

Test a bet – The Paddy Power sportsbook lets you create Lucky 63 each way bets in the bet slip before you place the wager. So, you could test a bet by crafting a demo Lucky 63 EW, not placing the wager, and seeing how your selections do. If you do this a few times then you’ll begin to learn where to spot value in the odds, and perhaps make smarter choices when you commit to a real money bet.
