The Ultimate 2024 Masters Betting Guide

The Masters is tipped to be a competitive tournament at Augusta this year and that’s good news for bettors

masters 2024 betting

Masters betting is already hotting up as we inch towards the first major of 2024. There’s a feeling this could be a showdown between the PGA loyalists and LIV rebels who have, in some sense, put their differences aside in recent months.

The animosity could spark again, though, if this Augusta crowd turns hostile to the LIV cohort this spring. Brooks Koepka has already proved you can break away from the pack and still win majors.

This makes for intriguing betting because a lot of the focus will be on Koepka and his fellow title-challengers Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith. What about Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler? They are still carrying the flag for the old guard and could garner growing support as the tournament plays out.

In this guide we’ll take you through everything you need to know about Masters betting in 2024.

2024 Masters Dates

The 2024 US Masters takes place in April once again this year, from Thursday, April 11 to Sunday, April 14. Check out our When is the Masters 2024? guide for a breakdown of each day’s play too!

Masters 2024 Favourites

The ante-post betting on the Masters has 10 frontrunners all priced within 21.00 of victory. Three are LIV players. Scheffler and McIlroy top the pile right now based on their rankings alone. Even then, the golf odds suggest neither has more than a 20% chance of winning the 2024 Masters title.

Let’s look at the favourites in a little more detail and consider where the value bets can be found:

Scottie Scheffler – Scheffler won the Masters in 2022 by three shots ahead of McIlroy. That was a vintage year for the top-ranked players, as Smith came in two shots further back. Last year Scheffler made the top 10 in three of the four majors. That’s good work from a player who only burst onto the majors scene in 2020.

The World No.1 ended his year-long title drought by claiming the The Players Championship in March. He is now the favourite to win.

Rory McIlroy – It is now 10 years since Rory McIlroy last won a major and the Masters still eludes him. He has made the top 10 in seven of the last 10 Masters tournaments, making him a good bet to do so again. But can McIlroy convert steady form at Augusta into a Green Jacket?

Recent results since he won the Dubai Desert Classic suggest he can’t. McIlroy bombed at Pebble Beach, the Genesis Open, the Honda Classic, and The Players.

Jon Rahm – This is Rahm’s first major since he defected to LIV back in December. The defending Masters champion will cut a controversial figure at Augusta National as he leads the media focus. The Spaniard is priced at 11.00 to win the Masters and that’s partially because he’s not played much golf.

Just four tournaments on the LIV tour means Rahm is coming into the Masters fairly cold. That can’t be good for his golf and bettors are walking away from a successful title defence here.

Viktor Hovland – Hovland has never won a major but showed his big-game ability when nailing the BMW Championship and Tour Championship within a week of each other last August. Those two results alone netted him a cool $7.2m. The Norwegian had a breakout year in 2023 in which he also tied seventh at Augusta.

The World No.4’s results haven’t been great since Christmas but he is capable of turning on the pressure when required. He’s worth keeping an eye on.

2024 Masters Tips

Now we know who the favourites for the Masters are, and what bets are available to us, it’s time to check out some tips. You can, of course, get updated Masters tips from Paddy Power throughout the tournament and follow our expert advice!

If you’re new to the game or just want a general steer on where to begin looking, here are tips to get you started:

Get on McIlroy early – McIlroy is well priced at 10.00 to win the Masters this year. He’s almost always in contention at Augusta and occasionally falls away. Still, he’s likely to be the frontrunner or in the chasing pack heading into Sunday. His odds could dramatically fall if he starts well and punters throw cash on him. So, the smart bet is to get on him early and lock in a price you know will fall.

Consider a hole in one – Holes in one are possible at Augusta but very, very rare. In fact, there have only been 34 Masters holes in one since the tournament began in 1934. The course has four par-three holes: 4th, 6th, 12th and 16th. We’re most likely to see one at the 16th – a hole named Redbud – which has witnessed 23 in its history. That includes Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau acing on the same hole in 2019. The tournament has witnessed 10 holes in one since 2016 so another could be forthcoming.

Hovland over Rahm – There’s a growing sense that this could be Hovland’s year to shine at Augusta. He’s proving to be a big-match player and fared well in 2023. Rahm, by contrast, may be something of an anomaly as he adjusts to life on the LIV Tour. Backing Hovland to finish higher than Rahm isn’t a bad shout.

Steer clear of Woods – Betting on Tiger Woods at the Masters is always tempting but it’s hard to see the the five-time champion winning again here. Woods just doesn’t have the physical or mental ability to keep up with the younger, sharper field. His 2019 miracle was just that: a miracle. The Woods Masters odds for 2024 will suggest he’ll be lucky to make the cut.
