Golf Tips: A 66/1 play leads the way at the 3m open that tees off on Thursday
The Majors are done and dusted as the players jockey for position in the FedEx Cup play-offs and Ryder Cup standings in a tournament where Paddy's paying to 8 places.

With all four Majors now in the rear-view mirror, the PGA Tour has its eyes set on the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The next event on that journey is the 3M Open at the Arnold Palmer designed TPC Three Cities located in Blaine, Minnesota. As would be expected with a tournament following the Open Championship, many of the world’s best will not be in action. Still, there’ll be plenty of talent on show as the race for the play-off spots in the Fed Ex Cup heats up.
The course is a lengthy 7,431 par 71 that will suit the longer hitters in the field. The key to victory in the last few years has been superiority from tee-to-green but driving is they key factor. So if you’re talented with the big stick, this could be your weekend. With that in mind let’s get into this week’s fancies.
As noted, tee-to-green superiority will be the key to success this week and Cameron Young has shown that all season. Last week in his T-6th finish at The Open, he beat all his competitors in this category. A strong week at the Open was also proceeded by another T-6th finish at the John Deere Classic in his last PGA Tour appearance. The course layout suits Young’s game and could prove to be the site of his maiden Tour win come Sunday evening.
Paddy’s paying to 8 places each-way and just like Young, I like the way Ludvig Aberg’s game lines up with the course layout. His tee-to-green play is next level and the 23-year-old newly turned pro will be looking to use his length to his advantage this weekend. His T-4th finish at John Deere Classic was only a taste of what’s to come for the Swede. He could be a late bolter for the Ryder Cup team and a win here will do his chances no harm at all.
There have been four Canadian winners on Tour this year and Adam Hadwin can make it five. He recently missed out on victory at the Rocket Mortgage Classic having only fallen to Rickie Fowler in a play-off. Now with two weeks’ rest, Hadwin has a great shot this week at a course he’s performed well on previously, having finished 4th in 2019 and 6th in 2021. Definitely a solid each-way shout.
Rounding off our fancies for this week is the talented left-handed South African Garrick Higgo. Another whose distance off the tee will be very useful in Minnesota. The South African has gained strokes off the tee in 11 of the last 12 events, the most recent being a top 20 finish at the Genesis Scottish Open. Higgo is in form and could well be worth an each-way punt this week.
