I think it’s a good each-way betting heat, this 2022 Irish Open. Shane Lowry’s the favourite and he might take some beating but there’s a lot of pressure on him this week and he’s a fairly short price so I’ll take him on with a few!
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
Adri Arnaus
Adri Arnaus is one of the best young talents on the tour, he won earlier this season in his homeland in Spain. He’s played really well since and I have no problem with his missed cut in the US Open. He’s too far down the betting for me, I think he’s one of the best young players in Europe and this course should really suit him.
Thomas Detry
All of Thomas Detry’s best form seems to come in the UK and Ireland. He was runner up in the Scottish Open this time last year and was 2nd at Celtic Manor which is pretty similar to this. Loads of good form around these parts and he started well here last year with a 67. He’s shown some better form lately in Germany with back-to-back top 30 finishes and I think he’s ready for a better summer after a slow start to the year.

Richie Ramsay
One outsider at a price I really like is Richie Ramsay. One of the key dynamics in play this week is that there are some Open Championship places on offer. In 2016 and 2017 Richie Ramsay came to either the Irish Open or the Scottish Open and produced the finish he needed to grab one of those Open Championship invites.
It’s been five years since he played it, it’s the 150th anniversary of the Open Championship this year, It’s at St Andrews, he’s an experienced Scottish player and he’s desperate to be there. He was in the top five last year so it’s a course that suits.
Kalle Samooja
The other one is Kalle Samooja. He’s a Finnish player with plenty of talent. He’s not the best driver but after that he’s very, very good, a brilliant iron player and putter. He’s won this year on a tough golf course and has shown form since then.
Last week he played really, really well but made a little mistake on the final hole that kept him out of the top 10 and he is a really big price for a player that’s been in great form. Kalle Samooja could be the second Fin to win this in the last decade.
