We’ve reached the halfway stage of the 86th Edition of the US Masters and while eyes have been riveted to the performance of the returning Tiger Woods it is the man of the moment Scottie Scheffler who is threatening to dominate the event.
Woods has used all his Augusta nous to navigate his way round to a hugely impressive 36 hole total of +1 and 19th place. Scheffler, however, was simply scintillating on Friday as he shot a joint best of the day 67 to sit on 8- under and open up a five shot lead.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS
Whether the new world number one can keep it going is another matter but if he does it will be a first Major for him and an incredible fourth win in six starts.
So, with a mouth watering round three in prospect lets see if we can pick out some value in today’s two ball pairings.

Patrick Cantlay & Webb Simpson: Webb Simpson
The first pairing to catch my eye is that of reigning Fedex Cup Champion Patrick Cantlay and WEBB SIMPSON who tee off at 18.10 UK Time and I’m willing to take a chance on the outsider Simpson here.
Former US Open Champion Simpson is no stranger to success at this level and having recently recovered from a back injury he has showed signs of starting to regain his form over recent weeks.
This week Simpson has been strong off the tee hitting 11 fairways out of 14 both days and really solid on the greens. Cantlay meanwhile will have been disappointed by his finish to round two, which saw him drop three shots over the final six holes and although he has also been reasonably solid from tee to green his putter is yet to really warm up.
Having finished in the top 12 on his last three visits to Augusta, shooting over par only three times in his past 14 rounds here, Simpson has clearly worked out how to get around the hallowed venue and I am happy to risk him at the odds to get the better of his more illustrious playing partner today.
Corey Conners & Cameron Smith: Corey Conners
Teeing off at 19.10pm UK time we find COREY CONNERS and Cameron Smith and it’s the outsider again here, Conners, who gets the nod at the odds.
Another who has really got the hang of Augusta over his last two appearances, posting two top tens, Conners has been at it again this week with all departments of his game working well.
Smith, conversely, who with the momentum of his recent Players win started really strongly on Thursday, found it a struggle on Friday with his long game letting him down as he found only eight out of 14 fairways. In addition, his hot putter, which had propelled him to his low score on Thursday also cooled off.
We know how much of a fan of Augusta the Aussie is but he will have to sharpen up considerably today if he wants to contend and I am happy to take the reliable Conners at the odds.
Hideki Matsuyama & Harold Varner III: Hideki Matsuyama
Heading out at 19.30pm UK Time we have defending champion HIDEKI MATSUYAMA and Harold Varner III and I’ll take the Japanese star here at the odds to boost our acca. Matsuyama came in here with injury concerns having been suffering with a neck problem of late however there have been no signs of a problem so far as he’s opened up with rounds of a 72 and a superb 69 yesterday in the toughest of the conditions.
Varner III has been revelling in his Masters debut so far however he can thank his position largely to a tremendous short game display, which see’s him second in sand saves and third on the greens and it will be a big ask for him to keep that going as the weekend progresses.
Sungjae Im & Shane Lowry: Shane Lowry
Finally to wrap things up I will take SHANE LOWRY to get the better of Sungjae Im in the penultimate two ball when they tee off at 19.40 UK Time.
Lowry who we sided with before the off flourished in the tough breezy conditions on Friday afternoon on his way to a 68.
With similar conditions forecast again today I expect the inform Irishman to continue push on and if Scheffler does slip up with all elements of his game firing he looks the man to me to take advantage.
Im conversely who was the day one leader was unable to take advantage of the calmer opportunities on Friday morning with his long game in particular deserting him and Lowry is strongly favoured over him today.
